Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer (m/w/d) - PLC / SPS

Project overview

We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join a Manufacturing Engineering team. In this role, you will support the design, development, implementation, and optimization of industrial control systems, automation equipment, and manufacturing machinery. Depending on your experience level, you will contribute to automation projects, troubleshoot production systems, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across our manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

• Develops and designs control systems and implements bench tests.
• Modifies software and equipment to ensure sensors and actuators function according to specification.
• Supports and troubleshoots complex problems and change requests.
• Prepares cost estimates, compiles cost and equipment information, and writes and reviews appropriation requests.
• Investigates project requirements and develops solutions considering economic, personnel, and environmental factors.
• May install and provide technical support for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) hardware and software.
• Coaches and mentors less experienced Controls Engineers.

Requirements

Core Competencies:

• Controls Engineering & PLC Programming Skills: Development, programming, and troubleshooting of control and automation systems
• Troubleshooting, Production Support & Industrial Manufacturing Experience: Providing technical support, resolving production issues, and working within industrial/manufacturing environments.
• Experience: Intermediate / Senior level of relevant work experience required
• German (min. B2 Level) & English (min. B2 Level)
• Education: College or university degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics), a related field, or equivalent experience
• Collaboration: Builds partnerships and works collaboratively to achieve shared objectives.
• Communication: Communicates effectively across different formats and audiences.
• Health and Safety Fundamentals: Promotes proactive health and safety practices to support an injury-free workplace.

• Controls Safety: Recognises electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic hazards and incorporates safe practices into daily work.
• Controls System Security: Supports secure controls and manufacturing systems through appropriate equipment and upgrade designs.
• Electrical System Troubleshooting: Analyses and resolves electrical control-system issues to restore proper operation.
• Factory Automation and Control Systems: Implements automation improvements using suitable technologies, programming methods, materials, and resources.
• Sensor Technology and Measurement: Selects and applies sensor technologies and analyses measurement data to distinguish conforming from non-conforming products.
• Machine Programming: Creates factory-floor machine programs and solutions that improve machine utilisation and overall operation.
• Manufacturing Knowledge: Applies manufacturing knowledge to improve processes, equipment, and applications.
• Values Differences: Recognises the value of different perspectives and cultures.
