Project overview
Data Engineer (Operational Resilience) - 6 months - Sheffield (Hybrid) - Inside IR35
Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Engineer to join a leading global bank's data and analytics function, supporting an Operational Resilience programme. You will strengthen data foundations and speed up delivery of trusted, well-governed, reusable data products for procurement and real estate services. These products will support service owner MI, the identification of operational asset vulnerabilities and the modelling of resilience scenarios. The contract is 6 months, hybrid in Sheffield, with 2 days per week on-site and 3 remote.
Responsibilities
What You Will Ideally Bring:
- Lead technical delivery of data foundations for operational resilience: a governed, reusable data layer for measuring resilience, mapping service dependencies and testing scenarios
- Design, build and run data pipelines across the full lifecycle: sourcing, ingestion, transformation, modelling and publishing
- Build and maintain data products with clear data contracts, quality rules, documentation and runbooks
- Implement data quality, lineage and governance requirements, including metadata capture (Collibra)
- Build conceptual, logical and physical data models for consistent KPIs, dashboards and regulatory/management reporting
- Work with data architects and technology teams on architecture standards and non-functional requirements (performance, recoverability, auditability)
- Own technical delivery of data products: backlog, acceptance criteria, risks, dependencies and status reporting
- Document roadmaps, data dictionaries and architecture in Confluence, with traceability in Jira
- Proven data engineering delivery: sourcing, ingestion, warehouse/refinery patterns and data asset delivery
- Strong SQL, relational data modelling and optimisation
- Hands-on GCP, including BigQuery or equivalent
- Strong Python with solid engineering practice (version control, testing, CI/CD)
- Understanding of graph concepts (nodes, edges, multi-hop traversal, path analysis) applied to what-if analysis, critical paths and single points of failure
- Operational resilience concepts and data, such as impact tolerances, outage and dependency incidents, DR/BCP test evidence
