This opportunity will see you play a critical role in complex database upgrades, migrations and performance improvements, ensuring the reliability, security and availability of essential government digital services.

• Contract: 12 month contract + extensions
• Location: Canberra

• Security Clearance: NV1 security clearance
• Key Skills: Microsoft SQL Server, IBM Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange, MongoDB, database migrations and performance optimisation
• Providing specialist database administration and technical support across Microsoft SQL Server, IBM Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange and MongoDB environments.
• Planning and delivering complex database upgrades and migrations, with an immediate focus on MongoDB modernisation.
• Assessing existing database environments to identify compatibility issues, performance bottlenecks and operational risks.
• Optimising database performance, availability and resilience through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting and remediation.
• Maintaining data integrity, security and service continuity throughout upgrades, migrations and operational activities.
• Supporting database deployments within containerised environments and implementing appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
• Collaborating with internal technical teams, documenting technical changes and transferring specialist knowledge to permanent staff.
• Extensive enterprise-level Microsoft SQL Server administration experience, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability and security.
• Demonstrated expertise administering IBM Db2 z/OS environments, including performance monitoring, recovery, data integrity and operational support.
• Strong IBM Db2 Midrange administration experience, including database optimisation, security, backup and recovery.
• Advanced MongoDB administration capabilities, including replication, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and database migration.
• Experience managing database platforms within containerised environments, with an understanding of deployment, integration and operational risks.
• Proven ability to plan and execute complex database upgrades and migrations while minimising downtime and maintaining data consistency.
• Excellent troubleshooting, technical documentation and communication skills, with experience working collaboratively in large, complex ICT environments.
