Jobbeschreibung

We are looking for a CI/CD Engineer (DevOps Engineer) to join our CI/CD team, focusing on maintaining applications and the CI/CD pipeline, providing 7x24 support, and facilitating development teams. The role involves developing and managing CI/CD, Monitoring, Alerting, and Logging (MAL) for applications and the CI/CD pipeline.

Project overview

Job description

For the CI/CD team, we are looking for a replacement CI/CD Engineer (DevOps Engineer) to help us realize our ambitions.

Responsibilities

For CI/CD, we use the following toolset, among others: Kubernetes, Linux, Docker, Helm, GitLab, ArgoCD, Argo Workflow, Artifact repos (Harbor, Artifiact Keeper, Garage), Authentik, OpenBao, APISIX API Gateway, ExternalDNS, and CloudNativePG.

For monitoring, alerting, and logging, we mainly use: Prometheus, Grafana stack (Loki, OpenTelemetry, Tempo, Dashboards, Alertmanager), and PagerDuty.

For message brokers, we use Apache ActiveMQ Artemis and RabbitMQ.

Our current on-premise custom Kubernetes platform will be replaced by an on-premise OpenShift platform.

The Dev teams work with the following application stack: Java (Springboot), Kotlin, Maven, Angular, and Playwright.

We adhere to the principle of “practice what you preach”. We also have a CI/CD pipeline for our tooling and host it on Kubernetes.

Client

Working together for a safe, livable, and accessible Netherlands. That is Rijkswaterstaat.

The Netherlands is a maritime country. Internationally leading in the maritime and inland shipping sector. Within RWS, the Central Information Provision (CIV) department is responsible for the development and availability of information within RWS, with Shipping Management (SVM) doing this for shipping.

The software developed within CIV-SVM by Our Release Train (ORT) supports smooth and safe shipping and is therefore developed and managed for 24x7 high availability.

Our users are diverse: including (recreational) skippers, bridge operators, lock masters, traffic controllers, and other waterway managers.

Our software ensures secure data exchange with (inter)national partners and with VHF, AIS, and process systems at, for example, locks.

The information provision for shipping offers a broad, diverse, and dynamic work area with plenty of developments and challenges.

The RWS ambition is to develop the waterway into a full-fledged and sustainable alternative for land transport, with good international connections and in collaboration with the logistics chain and other waterway users.

This poses significant challenges to our application landscape. For example, we provide reliable and up-to-date information 24x7 to skippers about national and European waterway corridors, including automated route planning (algorithms).

This places high demands on our information provision. At the same time, there is the challenge of offering integrated and role-specific user interfaces to operational staff in national corridor control centers from which objects will be operated remotely.

In recent years, we have built an application landscape of collaborating systems in a microservices architecture. These are further developed in an Agile/DevOps manner by, currently, twelve development teams.

For deploying the services, we use a CI/CD pipeline with containers that are quickly and extensively automated via OTA to the P environment.

Our software is mission-critical and 24x7 high available.

We work with quality and enjoy spending time optimizing and automating our software, tooling, environments, tests, and processes.

  • Keeping the applications and the CI/CD pipeline operational
  • 7x24 support for P1 incidents
  • Facilitating the Dev teams with CI/CD
  • (Further) developing and managing the CI/CD pipeline (open source)
  • (Further) developing and managing the Monitoring, Alerting, and Logging (MAL) for the applications and CI/CD pipeline.

Requirements

The candidate has a Bachelor's/Master's work and thinking level and has at least 4 years of relevant work experience with:

In addition, the candidate has extensive and demonstrable experience working in an Agile environment.

Candidate is willing to participate in the 7x24 on-call rotation.

Wishes

Knowledge and experience with Linux administration, security, networks, OpenShift

Additional information

When you, as a supplier, offer a professional to us and they are placed, we will need information from you as a contracting party, including regarding the Chain Liability Act (Wet keten- en inlenersaansprakelijkheid).

The purpose of the 'WKA' is to prevent abuse in the remittance of payroll taxes at all links in the chain; from supplier to client.

We cover these risks for our clients by means of a blocked account, the G-account.

This is an account to which a portion of the invoice amount is deposited and from which you can pay payroll taxes and VAT to the Tax Authorities.

The percentage to be deposited depends on whether you have a SNA certification (NEN-4400-1 or NEN-4400-2) or not, and whether your company is located in the Netherlands or abroad.

You can apply for the G-account from the Tax Authorities.

If you cannot obtain a G-account (and you can provide proof of this from the Tax Authorities), you also have the option to provide an accountant's statement (assurance report regarding personnel lending) every quarter.

In this, a certified accountant (AA or RA) will issue a statement about the correctness, completeness, and timeliness of the remittances.

Please note that the costs for this statement are at your own expense.

  • managing Kubernetes clusters
  • managing containerized applications and tooling
  • developing and managing CI/CD;
  • developing and managing Monitoring, Alerting, and Logging
