Assignment Description
We are looking for a driven DevOps Engineer to strengthen the Border & Migration subdomain (SD G&M). As a full member of an existing Scrum team within a mature Agile Release Train (ART), you will directly contribute to the development and further development of critical systems that are used 24/7 by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar). With your expertise in Java technologies, you will help us make the complex Border & Migration chain technically future-proof.
As a DevOps Engineer, you get energy from automating and optimizing processes and see it as a challenge to translate complex technical issues into reliable, scalable, and manageable solutions. You look beyond just the application and have an eye for the entire chain in which software is developed, tested, deployed, and used. You work from the principle "you build it, you run it" and feel co-responsible for the quality and continuity of service delivery.
Within the ART, you will work closely with developers, testers, architects, product owners, and other disciplines. Together, you will ensure that new functionality is not only developed but can also be brought to production quickly, safely, and in a controlled manner, demonstrably delivering value to users and the organization.
Your activities include:
Strong communication skills are essential to clearly explain technical choices and design decisions to both team members and other stakeholders within the ART. Proficiency in the Dutch language is important for this. Furthermore, you are expected to be organizationally sensitive and able to operate effectively in an environment where political-administrative interests and operational pressure play a role.
You are a team player who, within the Scrum methodology, not only looks at your own tasks but also at the flow of the entire team and the impact of your work on the entire chain. In complex situations, you maintain an overview, set the right priorities, and constructively contribute to the solution. You are not easily discouraged and know how to motivate your direct colleagues when things get tough.
Background of the assignment
You will be working within the JIVC (Joint Information Provision Command), a part of the Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT). Within JIVC, you will work in one of the most sensitive and technological domains of the Ministry of Defence: COC2 and I&V. This department creates and manages operational IT for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) and other armed forces components in the field of intelligence and security.
Within the COC2-I&V department, you will work in the Border & Migration subdomain, specifically in the team working on the Border Passage Decision Service (GPBS). You will work closely with multiple internal and external development teams on the further development, management, and continuity of the business-critical services of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
The systems within this domain support a 24/7 operational environment where availability, performance, and reliability are essential. The subdomain operates according to the principles of the SAFe framework combined with an Agile mindset. In this dynamic environment, you will work closely with various disciplines and actively contribute to realizing high-quality IT solutions that meet the needs of the organization and its users.
In addition to regular deployment and activities, you will actively contribute to the further professionalization of the ART within Border & Migration. Furthermore, you will regularly participate in a to-be-established professional group focused on software development within the COC2-I&V department.
