Freelancer DBA (SQL Server and SAP ASE Sybase) - Bucharest

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade and patch MS SQL Server and SAP ASE.
• Implement and regularly test the backup and restore strategy against defined RPO/RTO targets.
• Administer high availability and disaster recovery solutions (Always On AG, log shipping, replication).
• Proactive monitoring, performance tuning, index and statistics maintenance, DBCC integrity checks.
• Implement security controls: least privilege, encryption (TDE / Always Encrypted), auditing.
• Develop and operate data anonymization / pseudonymization tools on request.
• Support ETL and data warehouse workflows.
• Capacity planning and forecasting of storage and resource needs.
• Automate administrative tasks (PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL Agent).
• Documentation (schemas, configurations, SOPs, runbooks) and regular reporting on performance and compliance.
• Participate in the on-call rotation for critical incidents.

Requirements

Contract: B2B Collaboration

• 5+ years of production DBA experience.
• Proven hands-on experience with MS SQL Server *) and SAP ASE (Sybase).
• Advanced T-SQL: complex queries, stored procedures, execution plan analysis.
• Experience with HA/DR, backup/restore and incident recovery.
• Solid knowledge of ETL and data warehouse concepts.
• Knowledge of data security and GDPR.
• English: professional level, written and reading.
• Degree in Computer Science / IT or equivalent experience.

Working Schedule & Flexibility

This is a part-time engagement requiring 1 day per week from Bucharest (8 working hours), ideally from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, including a 30-minute lunch break.

The schedule and working arrangements are negotiable for candidates who may not be able to commit to the proposed hours in full.

This engagement is compatible with other freelance assignments or professional commitments, provided the agreed availability and responsibilities are met.
