Housing Options Officer

Project overview

We are currently working with a Local Authority who are seeking an experienced Housing Options Officer to join their team on an interim basis.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering homelessness prevention and relief services, managing a varied caseload, and ensuring the authority meets its statutory obligations under the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing a caseload of homelessness applications from initial contact through to case resolution.
• Conducting detailed housing needs assessments and producing Personal Housing Plans (PHPs).
• Making decisions under Parts VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996.
• Delivering prevention and relief duties in accordance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Liaising with landlords, support agencies and internal teams to secure suitable housing outcomes.
• Assessing applicants for temporary accommodation where required.

• Previous experience working within a Local Authority Housing Options or Homelessness team.
• Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Experience managing complex housing needs and homelessness cases.
• Ability to make sound statutory decisions and produce high-quality casework.
• Available at short notice or immediately available.
