Project overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Freelance HSE Coordinator to join a major client-side data centre project in Vantaa, Finland.

This opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience on large-scale construction projects, particularly within data centres, critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, power generation, utilities, or other complex construction environments. Working directly with the client team, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance are maintained throughout project delivery.

• Minimum 2-3 years' experience as an HSE Coordinator, HSE Advisor, HSE Specialist, or similar role.
• Previous experience on large-scale construction projects.
• Strong understanding of construction health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Good understanding of Finnish health & safety legislation, construction regulations, and industry best practices, with the ability to ensure compliance across all site activities and contractor operations.
• Experience with contractor management and site-based HSE activities.
• Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently while representing the client's interests on site.
• Fluent in Finnish and English.
• Valid EU Right to Work.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of project HSE policies, procedures, and standards.
• Conduct daily site inspections, audits, and safety observations.
• Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with project HSE requirements.
• Review Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), permits to work, and other safety documentation.
• Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
• Deliver site inductions and support toolbox talks where required.
• Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, statistics, and project documentation.
• Liaise with client representatives, contractors, consultants, and project management teams on HSE-related matters.
• Support internal and external HSE audits.
• Ensure compliance with Finnish legislation, client requirements, and industry best practices.
• Promote a proactive and positive safety culture across all project activities.
• Identify potential risks and provide practical recommendations to improve safety performance.
