In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to oversee the entire process: from concept and structural calculations to the assembly of working prototypes and field validation.

About the organization and your role

You will be working at a leading and innovative high-tech company that develops specialized measurement, sensor, and navigation systems for complex industrial applications. Within the multidisciplinary R&D team, advanced mechatronic systems, embedded electronics, and compact, robust housings are developed entirely in-house.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design custom tooling and housings that must perform under harsh operational conditions and dynamic rotational forces. You are not just a number here who only inputs 3D models; you are an all-round product developer who actively participates in building in the workshop and accompanies pilot phases to see how your innovations function in practice.

• Structural Design & Packaging: You will design specialized mechanical tools and compact housings in SolidWorks, taking into account strict physical boundary conditions such as thermal management, magnetic fields, and leakage currents.
• Calculation & Simulation: You will perform both strength and thermal calculations (thermal management) to ensure that rotating components and housings can withstand frictional heat, high pressure, vibrations, and dynamic stresses.
• Prototype Construction & Assembly: As soon as the outsourced components and parts arrive, you will roll up your sleeves and actively assist with the assembly and construction of the prototypes.
• Testing & Field Validation: You will extensively test the tooling in the workshop and also accompany pilot phases to external test and customer locations to validate the systems in action.
• Multidisciplinary Brainstorming: You will coordinate closely with embedded software and electrical engineers to seamlessly integrate mechanics and high-quality sensor technology.
• Education: A completed HBO or WO degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
• Experience: At least 3 years of relevant work experience in product development, R&D, or machine construction.
• CAD & Calculations: Thorough experience with SolidWorks and performing structural strength and thermal calculations (FEM / Thermal analysis).
• Hands-on Mentality: Two right hands; you enjoy tinkering with prototypes and happily go into the field for practical tests.
• Location & Region: You live in the Randstad region, ideally in (the vicinity of) Utrecht.
• Communication & Language: Excellent command of the Dutch language at a professional level is essential; you also speak English well.
• A salary up to a maximum of € 5,300 gross per month (depending on knowledge and experience).
• You can choose between a full-time (40 hours) or part-time (32 hours) employment contract.
• 30 vacation days and a travel allowance of €0.25 per kilometer are also part of the package.
• You will work with high-quality sensor technology and advanced systems that are at the forefront of the market.
• You will experience maximum variety: from high-end engineering and workshop assembly to field tests at customers.
