As a Medior Mendix Developer, you will build low-code applications using the Mendix platform for the Marechaussee. You will develop medium to large Mendix applications, focusing on operational systems and business support solutions, while also advising junior developers on development patterns.
Project overview
Assignment Description
As a Medior Mendix Developer, you will build low-code applications with the Mendix platform. You will develop larger Mendix applications within the Marechaussee. These can be operational systems, but also solutions that are more involved in business operations support. You will build smaller applications independently, with a senior helping you validate the architecture you designed. You will develop larger applications together with a senior, possibly in a team with other medior, junior, and senior developers. You will advise juniors on development patterns.
Working within Defense means you will work in a challenging IT landscape. Special attention during software development will be given to DevSecOps principles. Security by design and Privacy by Design will be applied from the very first idea. You will try to take this into account as much as possible during your work. Low-code means that you will also occasionally deal with high-code solutions elsewhere within the Defense application portfolio. Here and there, you may have encountered high-code development and have written a few lines of Java.
With a little help from a senior colleague, you will be able to integrate APIs into your solution. Additionally, you enjoy further developing your skills in Java, although extensive experience is not yet required. The low-code teams within Defense are set up as DevOps teams. Therefore, everything you create will also be managed by you at its core. During development, you will also pay attention to documentation and compliance, so that your application can be deployed immediately upon completion. Defense operates throughout the Netherlands, so travel may be part of your role.
The primary location is The Hague, but activities (such as meetings) may also take place at other locations. Please note: for this role, we are specifically looking for a medior profile. Senior roles will be excluded. In addition to technical requirements, team fit is also an important element.
Background of the Assignment
As a Medior Mendix developer, you will be part of the decentralized IT production KMar team. This small-scale multidisciplinary DevOps team (+/- 25 FTE) is responsible for the realization of small to medium-sized applications at the departmental/brigade level. They use various platforms for this, including: (public) Cloud, SharePoint, RPA, Low Code, and High code. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar), part of the Ministry of Defense, is undergoing a transition to an information-driven organization, enabling it to act more effectively and efficiently.
An organization that, if necessary in collaboration with partners, temporarily focuses on specific operational tasks or areas, thereby enabling decisive action and thus being a reliable and flexible organization for state security, providing added value to its authority and the chain. Technological or legal changes lead to innovation in existing operational capabilities. An example of this is border control at airports.
The essence of the operation remains the same, but technological developments compel the KMar to constantly adapt its working methods, infrastructure, and information provision, and thus also the tools and training of personnel. The increase in mobility and communication capabilities make threats less localized and necessitate different management. The importance of collaboration therefore increases.
