Project overview

For upcoming modernization projects with mid-sized companies in the DACH region, we are looking for experienced Java Developers (m/f/d) to join our expert pool. The work is 100% remote, and we welcome applications from anywhere in the world.

A typical project looks like this:

Starting point

An established business application is being modernized and migrated to Google Cloud. At its core are the backend services that carry the business logic, data storage and interfaces and serve the Angular web portal and the Flutter mobile app via REST APIs. The business logic is extracted from the legacy system step by step, re-cut and run as Spring Boot services on Cloud Run or GKE. Surrounding systems such as an ERP (e.g. SAP) are connected through well-defined interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Clarify business requirements with the business analyst and product owner and turn them into technical solutions
• Analyze existing business logic, re-cut it and migrate it step by step into Spring Boot services
• Design and implement REST APIs (OpenAPI), including versioning, error handling and documentation
• Design the data model and persistence with PostgreSQL or Cloud SQL, schema changes with Flyway or Liquibase
• Secure authentication and authorization via OAuth2 or OpenID Connect
• Implement asynchronous processing and integration of surrounding systems via Pub/Sub or Kafka
• Write and maintain automated tests (unit, integration and contract tests)
• Help set up CI/CD for building and deploying to Google Cloud, add logging, tracing and metrics
• Carry out code reviews, document technical decisions and guide developers in the team

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional backend development experience with Java, including at least 3 years with Spring Boot in production applications
• Design and implementation of REST APIs and work with relational databases (PostgreSQL or comparable)
• Experience with modernizing or replacing legacy applications (monolith to services, migration of business logic)
• Automated testing and CI/CD as daily practice (e.g. JUnit, Testcontainers, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI)
• Fluent English
• At least 4 hours of daily overlap with Central European Time (CET)
