Senior Java DevOps Engineer

Project overview

NOTE: This assignment is not available for direct freelance deployment. Deployment is only possible through a secondment agency/supplier or via a payroll/employment contract. The work will be carried out under the leadership and supervision of a public executive organization, therefore independent deployment is not permitted. Offering suppliers must be able to be included in the chain. WAADI registration and a G-account are required for this. Candidates who wish to participate as independent entrepreneurs can only be proposed when they are deployed through an authorized secondment agency or employment contract.

Assignment Description

For a large organization within the public sector, we are looking for an experienced Senior Java DevOps Developer with in-depth knowledge of Java, federated authentication, cryptography, and complex enterprise environments. You will work within an experienced Agile/DevOps team on a business-critical platform that enables secure digital access to online services. The environment has high demands regarding availability, scalability, performance, and information security.

You will develop and optimize Java applications and secure connections and actively contribute to architecture, technical improvements, and future developments. You will have the freedom to make independent technical choices, provide substantive support to colleagues, and contribute to innovation and further professionalization of the development environment.

Activities

Develop, maintain, and optimize complex Java applications and backend services.

Develop microservices and REST APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and similar frameworks.

Design and implement secure authentication and authorization solutions.

Work with federated authentication, including SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect.

Implement and maintain cryptographic techniques, including XML signing, XML encryption, and PKI certificate management.

Develop and manage secure system connections and API integrations.

Contribute to the development of container-based applications with Docker and Kubernetes.

Optimize performance, availability, scalability, and continuity.

Prepare and elaborate user stories, technical designs, and development estimates.

Perform code reviews, unit tests, and integration tests.

Support complex incidents and technical production problems.

Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery.

Document technical solutions and transfer knowledge to colleagues.

Advise on architecture, security-by-design, and technical improvements.

Requirements (knock-out criteria)

Completed HBO or Bachelor's degree in a relevant ICT field.

Minimum of 8 years of demonstrable, current experience as a Senior Java DevOps Developer within complex Java environments.

Minimum of 4 years of experience with cryptographic techniques, including XML signing and XML encryption.

Minimum of 2 years of experience with Dutch authentication standards based on SAML, including DigiD and eHerkenning.

Minimum of 2 years of experience with APIs and interface specifications.

Demonstrable experience within a comparable complex technical and functional environment.

The requested experience must be clearly evident from the CV, including concrete projects, responsibilities, and technologies used.

Wishes

Experience with Java 11 or higher, Spring Boot, and/or Quarkus.

Experience with microservices and enterprise integration architectures.

Knowledge of REST APIs, OpenAPI, and Swagger.

Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native applications.

Knowledge of OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0.

Experience with CI/CD and tooling such as Git, GitLab, Jenkins, Helm, Artifactory, or Gradle.

Experience with PKI, certificate management, mutual TLS, and secure system connections.

Knowledge of OWASP, Secure Software Development, and security-by-design.

Experience with automated testing, including JUnit, Mockito, and integration tests.

Experience with Agile/Scrum within multidisciplinary DevOps teams.

Experience with performance optimization and high-availability applications.

Experience with technical knowledge transfer and guiding developers.
