Assignment Description

DUO is looking for a senior Solution Architect for 36 hours per week within Education Funding.

The architect will take over the architectural responsibility from the current external architect and will primarily focus on the Archive System, Funding Accountability, and the acquisition and architectural integration of a package for Objection and Appeal.

The assignment includes:

The current external architect will leave on December 31, 2026. Targeted knowledge transfer will take place until that date. During this overlap, approximately 18 hours per week will be spent on transfer and taking over the mentioned domains.

In addition to the substantive deployment as a senior Solution Architect, the candidate will, for a portion of the assignment, fulfill the role of Architecture Advisor within the Architecture Enablement Team. In this role, they will support the Solution Architects in the further development and application of the architecture function within the ART. The Architecture Advisor will act as a sounding board for the architects and contribute expertise, methodologies, and practical experience to specific architectural issues.

They will review architectural products and interim results, help visualize the coherence and dependencies between solutions, teams, and architectural layers, and assist architects in translating complex architectural issues into guiding and usable frameworks, architectural features, and concrete action options.

After the transfer period, the focus will be entirely on architectural responsibility and senior advisory within the agreed scope.

Background of the assignment

Within OI, the architecture function is being further developed from separate solution architecture activities to a coherent architecture practice at the ART level. The architects work as an enabling team and connect strategic frameworks, domain and enterprise architecture with product management, portfolio, and daily realization by DevOps teams.

At the same time, several interconnected changes are underway within the funding landscape. Timely architectural choices are needed for the Archive System, Funding Accountability, and Objection and Appeal regarding case management, information management, integration, lifecycle, security, and reusable building blocks, among other things. The continuity of architectural knowledge is important here.

The current external architect supporting these domains will leave on December 31, 2026. To prevent knowledge loss and delays in ongoing decision-making, overlap is needed before that date for transfer. Additionally, there is a need for senior capacity in the key role of architecture advisor. This role is explicitly focused on knowledge transfer and the development of the architecture team.

  • Providing direction for the solution and system architecture within these domains and monitoring coherence with the broader funding landscape;
  • Developing and maintaining architectural vision, architectural roadmap, architectural features, frameworks, and relevant NFRs;
  • Designing and assessing solutions related to case management and archiving, including connection to the National Archives and, where relevant, applying standards and reference architectures such as GEMMA;
  • Advising on the acquisition, selection, and architectural integration of the package for Objection and Appeal, including integration, information management, security, lifecycle, and reusability;
  • Identifying generic patterns and building blocks for case management and archiving across multiple related domains, to accelerate and reuse solutions where possible;
  • Supporting and coaching DevOps teams and clients, conducting architecture reviews, and guiding design and refinement issues;
  • Visualizing architectural dependencies, risks, and enablers and translating them into concrete advice for product and portfolio management and decision-making.
  • Start: 2026-10-31T23:00:00
  • Location: Den Haag Zuid-Holland, NL
  • Languages: Dutch
