Lead the physical test infrastructure for ART Enablers, ensuring a reliable and compliant test environment for military systems, network equipment, and C2 software. This role requires deep practical experience with Defense C4I systems and the ability to translate strategic vision into concrete test configurations.
Project overview
Job Description
Provide technical leadership for the physical test infrastructure of ART Enablers, including military radio systems, network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls), and C2 software, to ensure a reliable, compliant, and scalable test environment for multiple ARTs. This role requires in-depth practical experience (min. 8 years) with Defense C4I systems, including crypto management, SAP notifications, and materiel management procedures.
The candidate must be able to solve complex technical problems in test environments — not just analyze, but also solve them quickly and independently — and has proven ability to translate the strategic vision of the System Architect of ART Enablers into concrete, reproducible, and audit-trail-compliant test configurations. The candidate is an experienced tester with a "go-to" expert status in the lab, who does not have a formal leadership role but exercises technical leadership through expertise.
He/she ensures that all configurations comply with Defense guidelines and that knowledge is retained through documented test procedures and maintenance logs. This position is not for a theorist or newcomer — it is a role for someone who knows the systems like no other, who knows how things work, and who has already demonstrated in practice that he/she carries the test infrastructure.
Background of the assignment
The test infrastructure of ART Enablers is a critical, shared capacity used by multiple ARTs to test C4I systems. Currently, clear technical leadership is lacking: the existing lab administrators are responsible for materiel management but not for the technical integrity of the test environments. The lab coordinators perform tests but depend on an unclear and inconsistent foundation. This leads to delays, unreliable test results, and risks of non-compliance with crypto management and SAP guidelines.
There is no single person responsible for translating the strategic vision of the System Architect into practical, audit-trail-compliant test configurations. The role of Tech Lead is therefore not an additional function — it is a necessity to stabilize, standardize, and connect the test infrastructure with the strategy of ART Enablers. This role must be filled by someone who knows the systems like no other, who has already demonstrated in practice that he/she carries the test environment.
Requirements/Wishes
Experience guiding other technical staff (such as lab coordinators) without a formal leadership role. Familiarity with SAFe principles and the role of a System Team in an ART environment (not as an expert, but with understanding). Experience setting up automation or standardization in test environments (e.g., scripts for configuration checks, reservation systems). Familiarity with Defense information security guidelines (IBR) and the use of Defense networks (e.g., DFN, DVS). Personal characteristics: proactive, calm under pressure, good communicator, "go-to" expert whom others trust.
