Project overview
Staff Software Engineer (Python)
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Python) to join a cybersecurity company building products that keep Linux systems secure and supported. Its software helps organizations running Linux infrastructure stay protected against known vulnerabilities, and continues to support operating systems and tools that have passed their standard maintenance period. You will take loosely defined business and technical problems and turn them into production systems: speaking with stakeholders, shaping the scope, designing the architecture, writing the code and supporting what you ship.
Most development is in Python, and the work spans several projects within one product area, where you may act as the primary engineer on an initiative. Priorities change and delivery cycles are short, so the role suits an engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, works well independently and takes ownership of their work.
Responsibilities
- Take unclear business and technical problems from initial idea to production solution
- Clarify requirements and agree on technical plans directly with business and product stakeholders
- Design solution architecture and make the key technical decisions on your projects
- Implement and ship backend code, primarily in Python
- Define the scope, priorities and trade-offs of the solutions you build
- Develop products that keep Linux infrastructure secure and supported, including systems past their standard lifecycle
- Move between projects within your product area, acting as the primary engineer on an initiative where needed
- Monitor your solutions after release and iterate on them using technical, product and business metrics
- Debug, prototype and review code as part of daily engineering work
- Use AI-assisted tools throughout your development workflow and validate their output before shipping
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including work at Staff, Principal or Tech Lead level
- Strong, recent hands-on experience in backend software development
- Proficiency in Python, or in another backend or systems language such as Go, Java, Rust or C++, with readiness to make Python your primary language
- Practical Linux knowledge
- A track record of taking a project, service or significant feature from an initial idea through requirements, architecture, implementation and release to production support
- Experience communicating directly with business and product stakeholders, turning an ambiguous idea into a concrete technical plan
- Strong architecture and technical decision-making experience combined with personal implementation of the solutions
- Experience defining the scope, priorities and trade-offs of a technical solution
- Experience monitoring solutions after release and iterating based on technical, product or business metrics
- Experience in both fast-moving startup environments and larger, established companies
- Active use of AI-assisted development tools in your daily workflow, with a clear approach to validating AI-generated output
- Excellent English communication skills for regular work with technical and business stakeholders
Nice to have
- Experience in cybersecurity or application security
- Experience with vulnerability management, security patching or CVE-related work
- Familiarity with software supply chain security
- Experience with operating system internals or low-level Linux development
- Contributions to open-source software
- Experience building developer tooling
Project details
- Start: flexible
- Remote: remote
- Location: Warszawa, Centre, PL
