Seeking a Senior Java Backend & Kernel Developer for a full-time, remote contract role focused on modernizing critical systems. The position involves robust Java backend development, system-level kernel topics, and CI/CD pipeline expansion.

Senior Java Backend & Kernel (CI/CD) Developer
For our client in the public/telematics environment (Toll Collect), you will support a mixed development team in modernizing and maintaining business-critical systems. The focus is on robust Java backend development, system-level kernel topics, and expanding automated CI/CD pipelines, as well as knowledge transfer to junior colleagues.
Responsibilities
Must-Haves
- Backend Development: Conception, further development, and refactoring of scalable Java backend services.
- Kernel & System Integration: Support with system-level components/kernel topics and interfaces.
- CI/CD Automation: Setup, securing, monitoring, and maintenance of stable build and deployment pipelines.
- Team Enabling & Mentoring: Close collaboration within the mixed team of senior and junior developers, and targeted knowledge building within the team.
- Java Backend: Many years of in-depth practical experience in modern enterprise Java development (e.g., Spring Boot / Microservices).
- Kernel & CI/CD: Demonstrable practical experience in system-level development/kernel topics, as well as in the conception and implementation of robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Communication & Mentoring: Strong team player mentality, structured way of working, and enjoyment of coaching junior developers.
- Language Skills: Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken.
Nice to have
