Chief IT Engineer / Senior IT System Architect

Project overview

For our client, we are looking for a Chief IT Engineer / Senior IT System Architect (m/f/d) starting January 1, 2027.

Responsibilities

• Overall technical responsibility for the architecture, conception, and implementation of complex enterprise IT infrastructures
• Definition, further development, and assurance of the target architecture across all project phases
• Creation and evaluation of architectural and solution concepts in the areas of virtualization, storage, network, server infrastructure, and IT security
• Analysis, prioritization, and control of technical requirements within the scope of systems engineering and requirements management
• Definition of system and subsystem interfaces as well as ensuring the traceability of technical requirements
• Technical leadership and coordination of architects, system engineers, external partners, and service providers
• Control of technical decisions, risk assessments, and escalations
• Support for project management in resource, budget, and schedule planning
• Responsibility for technical integration, testing, and acceptance activities, including FAT and SAT
• Conducting design reviews and issuing technical approvals
• Representation of the project towards customers, stakeholders, and decision-making bodies
• Implementation of security-by-design principles and ensuring compliance with regulatory and security-related requirements
• Development of hardening, network segmentation, and security concepts for critical IT systems
• Ensuring a stable, secure, and customer-acceptable overall solution

Requirements

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or comparable qualification
• At least 8 to 10 years of professional experience in complex enterprise IT environments
• Several years of experience in a leading technical role, for example as:
• Chief Engineer
• Lead Engineer
• Principal Architect
• Senior IT System Architect
• Technical Lead
• Demonstrable experience in the overall technical responsibility of large IT projects
• Profound knowledge in:
• Virtualization (VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, HA, DRS, vMotion)
• Enterprise Storage (NetApp ONTAP, SAN, NAS, NFS, iSCSI, Backup & Recovery, Disaster Recovery)
• Enterprise Networks (Routing, Switching, VLAN, VRF, BGP, OSPF, ideally EVPN/VXLAN)
• Windows and Linux server infrastructures
• Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IAM, and PKI
• IT security, network segmentation, and system hardening
• Experience in the technical leadership of technical teams and interdisciplinary project organizations
• Very good communication skills on a technical, management, and customer level
• Experience with structured development, integration, and acceptance processes
• Practical experience with FAT and SAT acceptances
• Existing security clearance (Ü2 or higher)

• Experience in defense, government, or security projects
• Knowledge of classified IT systems and various security domains
• Experience with public sector clients
• Knowledge of the V-Model
• Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
• Experience in security-critical or highly available IT infrastructures
• Knowledge of CIS Benchmarks, STIGs, and BSI IT-Grundschutz
