Freelancer Senior Cloud Architect – AWS & Enterprise Cloud

Project overview

For a software development organization in the industrial sector, we are looking for an experienced Freelance Senior Cloud Architect (m/f/x) for the Cloud Operations unit, which operates and further develops the cloud platform for internal development teams and end customers.

Requirements

Desirable:

• Solid experience in enterprise and solution architecture as well as in productive cloud deployment; ability to set architectural specifications across multiple applications and teams
• Very good knowledge of analysis and design methodology for software and AWS cloud solutions as well as common architecture/design patterns
• Deep practical experience in building cloud infrastructures with Terraform (IaC)
• AWS expert level (including EKS, EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, IAM), AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification
• Profound knowledge of networks and databases, considering security guidelines
• Practical experience in implementing cloud security standards
• Administration and scripting under Linux and Windows (Bash, PowerShell)
• Proficient in REST APIs, API security, OAuth, SSO, microservices, and micro-frontend architectures
• CI/CD, automation, and configuration management with GitLab; secure script development in Python and Bash including automation workflows, AWS Lambda functions, and system integrations
• Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, as well as relational and NoSQL databases
• Practical experience with AI-supported engineering tools and MCP integrations; hands-on with Claude Code and/or GitHub Copilot
• Fluent German and English

Project details

Task

Conception of cloud solutions on AWS together with the product teams, with responsibility for their architectural quality in a grown enterprise landscape with many applications, interfaces, cloud services, and customer-specific deployments.

Focus Areas

• Develop architectural strategies that accelerate the introduction of new cloud services and drive the technological advancement of IT
• Define solution architectures, integration patterns, API strategies, security models, and governance standards and secure them in reviews – consistent with enterprise architecture specifications
• Responsibility for the quality of results from Cloud Operations delivery
• Technical consulting of the customer, support with technical pre-sales topics
• Technical mentoring role for DevOps Engineers, Junior Architects, and Test Automators; moderation of architecture reviews, evaluation of technical requirements
• Independent responsibility for complex solution designs – high degree of autonomy
• Design and implementation of modern cloud infrastructures, ongoing optimization of platform performance and stability
• Definition of security and vulnerability standards, secure service design, monitoring compliance in operation
• Responsibility for system architecture throughout the entire project lifecycle – high-level and detailed concepts for applications, infrastructure, and networks
• Reviews of automation scripts and tooling against DevOps standards
• Close coordination with project/program management, central technical interface for the introduction of new solutions
