Job description
Seeking a DevOps-oriented Full-Stack Specialist for the PROTON project, which simulates railway operations. The role involves end-to-end feature ownership across frontend, backend APIs, and serverless data pipelines.
Project overview
The Project
PROTON simulates railway operations microscopically and network-wide (minute-accurate train schedules, dispatching, travel time calculations, disruption and construction site modeling) over periods of up to entire operating years. As a DevOps-oriented Full-Stack Specialist, you will be responsible for features holistically across frontend, backend APIs, and serverless data pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Frontend (Angular 22): Further development and maintenance of modern web UIs with Standalone Components, signal-based state management, and an internal design system component library.
- Geodata & Visualization: Further development of performant WebGL map visualizations (Deck.gl, Three.js) for infrastructure and train movements, as well as migration of existing Leaflet components.
- Backend & APIs (Python): Development and maintenance of robust REST services (FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL/Alembic) as well as extension of GraphQL APIs (Ariadne) for big data queries via AWS Athena / Parquet.
- Data Pipelines & E2E Delivery: Further development of serverless AWS pipelines (Lambda, Batch, S3, Glue) for ETL and simulation runs; holistic feature implementation in "1 Merge Request per End-to-End Feature" mode.
- Architecture & Quality: Reduction of technical debt, consistent layered architecture, module interfaces, and automated QA (unit & E2E tests).
Requirements
Must-Have Criteria
Language:
- > 5 years of senior experience in Angular: Excellent knowledge of modern Angular concepts (Signals, Standalone Components, State Management, Architecture & Component Interfaces).
- > 5 years of senior experience in Full-Stack Architecture: Refactoring and architectural further development of established systems across frontend and backend (layers, dependencies).
- Python Web APIs: Demonstrable experience with FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, and relational DB migrations (min. 2 project references).
- Domain Know-how: Experience in the conception or implementation of algorithms / planning models in rail transport / freight rail transport (min. 1 reference).
- Agentic AI Coding: Practical experience in AI-assisted development in agent mode (e.g., via Claude Code, Cursor, Kiro, OpenCode; min. 2 references).
- WebGL-based geodata visualization of dynamic data via Deck.gl, MapLibre, or Three.js (incl. interactive geometry editing).
- Performant rendering of large table data with AG Grid and diagrams with Plotly.js.
- Complex UI editors/forms (dirty/undo handling, conflict management).
- AWS Serverless Stack (Lambda, Batch, S3, Athena/Glue).
- UI integration via Figma / Design Tokens (Figma Code Connect).
