Job description
The IT Platform Architect will be responsible for the design and further development of reference and target architectures for server, virtualization, container, and network virtualization platforms.
Project overview
Architecture Design:
Concept and further development of reference and target architectures for server, virtualization, container, and network virtualization platforms.
VMware Platform:
Architecture and roadmap based on VMware Cloud Foundation 8 and 9 (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSX, SDDC Manager, HCX, Tanzu), including migration and upgrade paths.
Windows Infrastructure:
Architecture of central services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, File/Print Services, and Remote Desktop Services on Windows Server 2019/2022.
Kubernetes:
Architecture and operating model for clusters in VMware and Windows environments (including Tanzu, Windows Nodes).
Platform Engineering:
Definition of standards, self-service concepts, and reusable platform building blocks, templates, and operating standards.
Automation Strategy:
Definition of guidelines and toolchain for Infrastructure as Code and configuration management (e.g., PowerShell, Desired State Configuration, Ansible, Terraform).
Observability:
Architecture of an end-to-end monitoring, logging, and observability landscape (e.g., SCOM, Checkmk, Grafana/Prometheus, Graylog).
Security Architecture:
Concept of hardening and security concepts (Microsoft Security Baselines, VMware Security Configuration Guides, Kubernetes Security, BSI Basic Protection, Zero Trust) in coordination with the security team.
Requirements
Residency in Germany.
Several years of experience in the operation and design of Windows Server and VMware infrastructures, ideally with VMware Cloud Foundation 8/9.
In-depth knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell, and central infrastructure services.
Experience with Kubernetes and container technologies, ideally on Windows Nodes and in Tanzu environments.
Very good scripting skills (PowerShell, plus Python/Bash) and experience with automation and standardization.
Understanding of platform engineering approaches: standardization, self-service, reusability, observability, operational stability.
In-depth IT security knowledge (Security Baselines, BSI Basic Protection, Hardening, Zero Trust).
Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Checkmk, Grafana, Graylog).
