AI Expert in SAP Environment

Project overview

For a mechanical engineering company in the Stuttgart region, an experienced freelance AI expert / AI architect (m/f/d) in the SAP environment is sought to support the establishment of a new AI team.

The focus is on the conception of how the company's own AI architecture models can be cleanly integrated into an existing SAP S/4HANA On-Premise landscape – including data management, SAP integration, and authorization concepts. An expert with strong consulting skills and profound SAP experience is sought, who can provide technical guidance and support to the internal team as well as external consulting firms and service providers. Purely operational, hands-on implementation is not part of the task.

Responsibilities

• Consulting on AI architecture in the SAP context, oriented towards current SAP policies for AI architecture models
• Conception of how data is consolidated for the AI platform without leaving the company
• Elaboration of the AI platform's connection to SAP, including an authorization concept for AI access
• Evaluation of alternative access paths if direct API access by AI to SAP is not permitted
• Ensuring a clean data model layer
• Technical interface function between the internal team, SAP consulting firm, and platform service provider
• Participation in the development of processes and technology for the new AI team
• Direct reporting to management on budget and architecture issues

• Profound SAP experience, ideally with S/4HANA On-Premise
• Experience in the conception of (AI) architectures in the SAP environment
• AI experience itself is an advantage, but not strictly required – SAP depth is the priority
• Experience in the mechanical engineering environment is an advantage
• Strong consulting and communication skills at management level
• Very good German language skills
• Start: Date not yet final, ideally as soon as possible; punctual notice from 01.01.2027
• Duration: likely 6+ months
• Utilization: 1–2 days per week
• Location: Remote / Hybrid / On-site – ideally within a 300 km radius of Stuttgart
