Senior Business Analyst: Data Steward

Project overview

For our client in the insurance sector in Bern, we are looking for an experienced, motivated, and open-minded Senior Business Analyst - Data Steward.

In this role, you will take on a central interface function between business departments, IT, and development teams, and be responsible for the functional analysis, quality, and further development of data products. You will combine your expertise in business analysis and data management with temporary responsibility as a Product Owner in an agile SAFe environment.

Responsibilities

• Collection, analysis, and documentation of functional requirements for data products, reports, and data processes
• Investigation and analysis of complex data sets and data relationships using SQL
• Definition and further development of data quality rules, quality metrics, and functional metadata
• Conducting functional clarifications on data products, data replications, and data contracts
• Functional review and validation of data models as well as ensuring data quality
• Creation and maintenance of functional documentation, Q&As, and supporting tools
• Close collaboration with business departments, system architects, and development teams to coordinate functional and technical requirements
• Temporary assumption of classic Product Owner tasks such as backlog management, prioritization, and stakeholder coordination in a scaled agile environment according to SAFe

• At least 7 years of professional experience in business analysis, requirements engineering, or data management, ideally in the insurance sector
• Sound understanding of insurance processes, especially in the areas of contract management and sales, as well as the underlying data flows
• Proven experience in the collection, analysis, and documentation of complex functional requirements
• Good knowledge of data quality, data governance, data contracts, and metadata management
• Profound SQL knowledge as well as experience with data analysis and the functional evaluation of data models
• Practical knowledge of Power BI and ideally experience with Databricks, Oracle Database, and Azure SQL
• Experience in agile organizations according to SAFe and ideally in the role of Product Owner
• Strong analytical skills, structured way of working, and a high sense of quality and responsibility
• Communicative personality with experience in stakeholder management and collaboration between business and IT
• Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken, for collaboration with international and offshore teams
