Job description

Seeking a Senior Platform Architect to contribute to a product area developing, operating, and training solutions for automating complex operational processes. The role involves combining architectural responsibility with hands-on technical work to advance the delivery pipeline, build & CI tooling, and deployment automation.

Project overview

You will be involved in a product area that develops, operates, and trains solutions for the automation of complex operational processes: thousands of transactions are controlled, monitored, and optimized daily with our products – a complex and highly exciting environment. With 10 agile teams, the entire product range is managed E2E from conception to operation together with the business, while the existing, operationally critical, and highly available systems are continuously developed without affecting ongoing operations.

The central application landscape around operational processes is being modularized and technically modernized. The Platform Team is responsible for the build & CI environment as well as the delivery pipeline for Spring Boot applications on OpenShift and continuously develops the established target platform and its delivery processes.

You combine architectural responsibility with active technical participation: You will further develop the delivery pipeline, the build & CI tooling, and the deployment automation so that applications are delivered reliably, securely, traceably, and reproducibly.

You will further develop the existing OpenShift-based platform landscape and ensure that short-term delivery capability, long-term maintainability, stability, security, and automation remain in a viable balance.

You will develop overarching target visions, architectural concepts, standards, and decision-making bases for the delivery pipeline, build & CI environment, deployment processes, and platform integration.

You will work hands-on in implementation: You will write and review code, automate processes, and integrate technical solutions into the existing platform – close to the code and the technical challenges of the team.

You will take architectural responsibility for the Platform Team's build, CI/CD, and delivery landscape, shape the technical roadmap, and coordinate architectural decisions with product owners, agile release trains, development teams, operations, security, and architecture stakeholders.

You will coach engineers and development teams on CI/CD, deployment, platform, and architecture issues and ensure understandable documentation of tools, concepts, and architectural decisions.

You will make quality, stability, and delivery performance transparent with suitable metrics and tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in software development, software architecture, platform engineering, DevOps, or CI/CD – including several years in the architecture of platform, integration, or delivery landscapes in complex production environments, including a shared platform or delivery landscape used by multiple teams or applications.
  • Current practical engineering experience and the willingness to write code yourself and implement technical solutions on the platform.
  • Passion for a complex, heterogeneous, operationally critical software system and enjoyment in combining technical excellence, automation, and operational stability.
  • The ability to quickly familiarize yourself with complex technical and functional contexts and derive viable target visions, architectural concepts, and decision-making bases from them – with a high degree of independence, resilience, and quality and solution orientation.
  • Experience in taking technical responsibility in an agile environment, moderating architectural decisions, and coordinating solutions across multiple teams or stakeholder groups.
  • Experience with AI-supported software development and the habit of automating tasks where possible and sensible.
  • Confident demeanor and communication and presentation skills tailored to the audience in German with common business English – including conveying complex content to a larger audience.
  • Knowledge of OpenShift/Kubernetes, container technologies, GitOps, Argo CD, Helm, or Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with Java, Python, Go, or a comparable programming language.
  • Experience with monitoring, telemetry, and observability, e.g., Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus.
  • Experience with highly available, operationally critical, or security-relevant applications.
  • Experience as Lead Architect, Solution Architect, Platform Architect, or Technical Lead in a complex system landscape.
