Senior Shopify Full-Stack Developer

Project overview

We are looking for an experienced developer for our client who has a comprehensive understanding of Shopify. Various projects are running there, from themes to custom apps. You will quickly familiarize yourself and implement requirements independently.

An initial workload of 50% is planned, with the scope growing with the projects. As the collaboration is planned until the end of 2027, you can plan long-term.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain themes for Online Store 2.0, from scratch or building on Horizon and Dawn
• Implement headless storefronts with Hydrogen and Oxygen or Next.js
• Build custom apps and app extensions, for example for Admin, Checkout, Customer Accounts, or POS
• Implement custom logic in the shopping cart and checkout with Checkout UI Extensions and Shopify Functions, for example for discounts, shipping rules, payment methods, or validations
• Connect ERP, PIM, CRM, and other systems via the Admin GraphQL API and Webhooks, if necessary also via middleware
• Migrate shops from Shopware, Magento/Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, or JTL-Shop to Shopify, including data transfer and SEO redirects
• Set up international setups with Shopify Markets and map B2B requirements with Shopify's native functions
• Optimize performance according to Core Web Vitals and implement technical SEO cleanly
• Implement accessible shops according to WCAG 2.2 to meet BFSG requirements
• Set up tracking via Customer Events and Google Tag Manager, with consent management according to GDPR
• Automate workflows with Shopify Flow and build data models with Metafields and Metaobjects
• Advise the client on architecture and app selection and realistically estimate effort
• Perform code reviews and keep running shops stable, including updates to new API versions

• Several years of experience in Shopify development (ideally 5+) and reference shops you can show us
• Project experience with Shopify Plus
• Very good knowledge of Liquid and the theme architecture of Online Store 2.0, including Section Groups and nested theme blocks
• Proficient in HTML, CSS/SCSS, Tailwind CSS, and modern JavaScript; TypeScript and Web Components are part of your skillset
• Experience with React, ideally also with React Router (formerly Remix)
• Solid knowledge of Shopify's GraphQL APIs, especially Admin and Storefront API, plus Webhooks and Bulk Operations
• App development with Shopify CLI, Node.js, Polaris, and App Bridge
• Practical experience with Checkout Extensibility and Shopify Functions, preferably also from replacing Shopify Scripts
• Routine with Git and CI/CD, for example via GitHub Actions
• Independent, structured way of working and clear communication, also with non-technical stakeholders
• Very good German and English language skills
• Experience with Headless Commerce, preferably in combination with a Headless CMS like Storyblok, Contentful, Sanity, or Builder.io
• Additional Shopify Plus features, such as Launchpad or multiple stores in one organization
• Shopify POS and POS UI Extensions
• ERP and PIM systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, JTL, Xentral, Odoo, Akeneo, or Pimcore, also via middleware like Alumio or Make
• Common apps from the ecosystem, such as Klaviyo, Recharge, Algolia, Judge.me, or Matrixify
• Server-side tracking, e.g., with Server-Side GTM or the Meta Conversions API, and consent tools like Usercentrics or Cookiebot
• Experience in backend beyond Node.js, for example with Ruby on Rails or PHP/Laravel
• Rust for particularly performant Shopify Functions
• Cloud and DevOps, e.g., Docker, AWS, Google Cloud, Vercel, or Cloudflare Workers
• Automated tests with Playwright or Cypress, plus Lighthouse CI
• AI-assisted development, for example with the Shopify AI Toolkit or the Dev MCP Server
• Initial experience with Agentic Commerce, e.g., with the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) or Sidekick App Extensions
• Knowledge of legal requirements for shops in the DACH region, e.g., legal texts or the mandatory withdrawal button from June 2026
