Jobbeschreibung
The Norwegian Customs is seeking an experienced backend developer to join their digitalization program. The role involves designing, developing, and testing system support to improve customs processes.
Project overview
The Norwegian Customs' societal mission is to control goods entering and leaving Norway, and to ensure that laws and regulations for cross-border goods movement are complied with. This contributes to Norway being a sustainable, safe, and fair country for citizens and businesses, well-facilitated for international trade.
The Norwegian Customs works to make it easy and efficient to comply with laws and regulations for cross-border goods movement. At the same time, we must create a high perceived risk of detection for those who nevertheless consider smuggling, and we must detect as many smugglers as possible. Norwegian Customs also supports a number of collaborating authorities, acting as the state's representative where goods cross the border.
The volume of goods crossing the border is large, and the volume has increased over many years. Norwegian Customs relies on digitizing processes to handle the volume and ensure harmonization with EU regulations. One goal is to establish the most efficient and seamless goods movement process possible that contributes to compliance with laws and regulations for cross-border goods movement.
The Norwegian Customs' digitalization program plays a key role in the development of the future Norwegian Customs. The goal is to establish good support tools to best fulfill the societal mission, and thereby further develop and streamline the agency. The program represents the agency's largest development initiatives and works with the line organization to implement necessary change activities to achieve and realize planned effects/benefits. The Norwegian Customs' Treff initiative and Svalbard initiative are both part of the Norwegian Customs' digitalization program.
Through the program, the agency will establish digital solutions that provide better analysis and decision support, allowing the agency to target its work to an even greater extent. This includes:
In the Norwegian Customs' digitalization program, we need to engage an experienced consultant in the role of backend developer. As a backend developer in the Norwegian Customs' digitalization program, you will have the opportunity to work with the design, development, and testing of system support to improve the Norwegian Customs' work processes.
Work Methodology:
The digitalization program uses the Norwegian Customs' development methodology as a basis for development work. Overall, work is carried out based on an agile devops methodology with continuous production deployment. The methodology is strongly inspired by Scrum, with 3-week sprints, including demos, retrospectives, and planning.
Technological Platform:
The teams work towards a value chain where the architecture is based on a common task-oriented user interface with microservices in the backend. The flow in the solutions is event-oriented, and we use Apache Kafka as a communication solution, mainly with JSON as the format.
The solutions are developed in Kotlin and Java with Spring Boot and communicate with small microfrontends in React / Material UI, and with REST-based interfaces in addition to Kafka. We use PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch for storage and search solutions; production runs in an OpenShift cluster. The codebase is in Git (Github/Bitbucket), and we use Jira and Confluence as documentation and support systems. Prometheus, Grafana, and an ELK-based log platform are used in the operational part of the solutions.
