Generic description of competence area and levels
Summary task and mission
- As a data management expert, you will develop central knowledge, standards, guidelines, and tooling for the entire organization. You will also support the implementation of federated data management, where each Defense unit becomes responsible for its own data products.
- Of course, you will not do this alone. The project team will be led by a project leader and accompanied by an enterprise data architect who will ensure the vision and alignment with other initiatives.
- In addition, data engineers will build data products, and platform engineers will implement and configure a data management platform.
- Working within Defense means working in a challenging IT landscape. Defense is moving towards a federated data architecture. This means that each defense unit is responsible for carrying out data management activities, for which the policy, frameworks, and tooling will be made available centrally (with broad alignment).
- Data management for Reliable AI also entails developing and implementing data management activities' policies, standards, and procedures (in the relevant tooling) where they do not yet exist. You must provide for this and ensure quality from your expertise.
- Defense operates throughout the Netherlands, so travel may be part of your role. The duty station is Utrecht (the Kromhoutkazerne), but activities (such as meetings) may also take place at other locations.
- As a data management expert in the 'Data Management for Reliable AI' project, you are part of the Joint Information Provision Command (JIVC), which is part of the Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT). The command is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of concrete IT products and services based on the needs of the other defense units.
- Defense is in a period of accelerated digital transformation. On the one hand, the increasing digitalization of the battlefield and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) demand modern, reliable, and well-managed data. The use of data is essential in carrying out operational as well as strategic, decision-making, and analytical tasks and responsibilities.
- On the other hand, the organization must increase its agility to operate effectively within a rapidly changing international context, where data can be shared securely and controlled between operational units, partners, and allies. To meet these challenges, Defense wants to transform from a largely centralized data architecture to a federated data architecture.
