Assignment Description

For the program ‘Every Drop to the Ground’ (EDDGI), we are looking for a hydrologist with experience in groundwater modeling. In this role, you will support the program hydrologist and contribute to the preparation and elaboration of small-scale drought measures within various projects. You will identify the hydrological effects of proposed interventions in the water system and brainstorm suitable measures to retain water longer and combat drought.

Activities

As a hydrologist, you will be responsible for calculating and assessing the groundwater effects of projects within track 1 (Demand-driven approach) and track 2 (TBO approach) of EDDGI. This includes deepening waterways, possibly in combination with placing or adjusting weirs. You will translate changes in ground levels and surface water levels into effects on groundwater levels and clearly visualize these effects. You may also contribute to water system analyses for projects of nature conservation organizations.

You will coordinate the approach and results with the program hydrologist and other stakeholders and translate the outcomes into clear conclusions and advice for the projects.

Assignment

The assignment initially relates to projects within two tracks of the EDDGI program: track 1 – Demand-driven approach and track 2 – TBO approach. A separate agreement will be drawn up for each project. The assignment has a duration of six months.

Job Requirements

• Minimum completed HBO or WO education in hydrology, hydrogeology, water management, or a comparable field.
• Knowledge of surface water and groundwater interactions and experience with measures such as deepening waterways and placing or adjusting weirs.
• Demonstrable experience with groundwater modeling (MODFLOW/AMIGO) and assessing groundwater effects of interventions in the water system.
• Possible experience with water system analyses.
• Ability to interpret model results practically and translate them clearly into maps, conclusions, and advice for projects.
• Able to work independently while also coordinating concisely and substantively with the program hydrologist and other involved disciplines.
