maximum 105,- per hour Assignment Description As a senior advisor AI policy, you contribute to the policy and strategic development of the AI domain within EZK and LVVN, and strengthen the Data and Information Policy team for the duration of your assignment. You will work closely with the coordinator and the other advisors of the team. Your activities: You act as a liaison to the AI Taskforce: you connect the framework-setting role of the Office with the developing and executing role of the Taskforce.

You keep the Taskforce engaged with relevant policy developments and frameworks, and bring signals and points of attention from the Taskforce to the team, so that policy and frameworks align with what is needed in practice to deliver the right results. You contribute to the realization of necessary policy and frameworks in the AI domain, so that the organization can work responsibly and effectively with AI. You advise management and executives in the AI domain, both solicited and unsolicited, and know how to make complex matters understandable for an executive audience.

You follow (inter)departmental and societal developments in the field of AI, and advise the team and the organization on their implications. You contribute to the development of the organization-wide AI strategy and provide substantive input from your expertise in AI policy. Your activities are contributory and preparatory in nature: you strengthen ongoing policy development and ensure continuity, but do not build independent, multi-year ownership of dossiers. Transfer to the permanent senior policy advisor who is being recruited in parallel is part of your assignment.

Background of the assignment Data, algorithms, and AI are no longer science fiction, but already determine how EZK and LVVN approach their societal tasks. Both ministries are actively working on strengthening data-driven work and the responsible use of AI. The Data and Information Policy team, part of the CDO structure within the CIO organization, is responsible for the framework-setting policy in this domain: developing strategy, policy, and frameworks with which the organization uses data, algorithms, and AI responsibly and effectively, with attention to relevant laws and regulations such as the AI Regulation.

The team is currently starting the development of an organization-wide AI strategy for EZK and LVVN. In parallel, the team is recruiting a permanent senior policy advisor Data, AI & Algorithms (scale 13). Temporary reinforcement at a senior level is needed for the period until this recruitment is completed, and to avoid delaying ongoing policy development. A specific point of attention within this assignment is the connection with the AI Taskforce, a temporary structure within the IMB department of the Information Provision directorate.

Where the CIO Office sets frameworks organization-wide, the AI Taskforce is focused on development and execution, with a focus on the core ministries and in collaboration with the executive agencies. Because AI is a new technology in which the organization is still learning how to shape collaboration between framework-setting and execution, a good connection between the Office and the Taskforce is essential - also with a view to the AI strategy that should guide this development.

Requirements Minimum 3 years of demonstrable work experience at the intersection of data, algorithms, and AI, in a policy or advisory role within the public sector. Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with developing policy, frameworks, or strategic advice in the field of data and/or AI.

Minimum demonstrable completed university (WO) education Desired Demonstrable knowledge of the AI Regulation and related laws and regulations in the field of data and digitalization Knowledge of the national context in which AI policy and frameworks are developed, including relevant bodies and interdepartmental cooperation Experience with advising executives and management both in writing and orally in a complex organizational or political environment Additional training or certification in AI governance, AI ethics, or the AI Regulation University education in a field relevant to data, algorithms, or AI policy (e.g., public administration, law, data science, artificial intelligence, or comparable) Competencies Strong analytical skills: quickly understands complex issues and can distinguish the main points from the details.

Strong administrative and organizational sensitivity: reads the environment well and navigates effectively in complex administrative and political relationships. Independent and quickly deployable: quickly gets up to speed in a new organization and a temporary assignment due to relevant experience. Connecting: knows how to bring together and make framework-setting and executing parties cooperate, without losing the sharpness of their own advice.
