Einleitung

For our client, a globally operating leader in innovative metrology and process control solutions for semiconductor manufacturing, we are looking for an experienced freelance software engineer. Based in Mannheim, the team brings over 25 years of experience in developing state-of-the-art, high-precision measurement systems.

In this project, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining high-quality distributed software solutions for the semiconductor industry. You will help tackle critical challenges by developing systems that look down to the atomic level, providing actionable data for the world's most advanced computer chips.

• Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable software applications using C# and the .NET ecosystem.
• Writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in line with established coding standards (Clean Architecture).
• Applying Test-Driven Development (TDD) and contributing to a strong culture of automated testing.
• Developing robust solutions with a solid understanding of multi-threaded programming, locking/interlocking mechanisms, and parallelism in the .NET ecosystem.
• Translating business requirements into technical solutions in close collaboration with product owners, architects, and cross-functional teams.
• Conducting code reviews and providing constructive feedback to ensure high code quality and consistency.
• Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior and mid-level developers within the team.
• Identifying and driving improvements in software architecture, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues across a distributed software stack.
• Contributing to CI/CD practices and supporting modern software delivery processes.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
• Proven software engineering experience in hardware-related development environments.
• Excellent knowledge of object-oriented programming, Clean Code principles, Test-Driven Development, and SOLID principles.
• Deep understanding of multi-threaded programming in C# / .NET.
• Strong Plus: Solid understanding of real-time systems, hardware integration, and optical sensor data processing.
• Excellent team player with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in international, cross-functional teams.
• Excellent English communication skills; German is a plus.

Requirements

A deep and solid understanding of .NET and C# 14

At least several years of experience with multi-thread programming

A deep and solid understanding of RESTful API design and implementation

At least several years of experience in high volume in memory data computation

A deep and solid understanding of OOP, SOLID, Automated Testing (e.g., unit testing, component testing, mocking), multi-layer architecture, Test Driven Development

Good understanding of UML

Nice to have

Legacy Modernization (migrating a monolithic system into distributed service-oriented systems such as Microservices)

Distributed System Design Principals, such as Event-based Architecture, Object-based Architecture, Fault Detection, Causality Methods, Fault Tolerance Techniques

Relational Database Design

Front-end Development .NET MAUI
