Jobbeschreibung
A major insurance company is undertaking a complete redesign of its mobile application, requiring a Tech Lead to oversee the architecture and development of native iOS and Android apps, as well as a new mobile BFF.
Project overview
Context
A major insurance company is undertaking a complete redesign of its mobile application, in native iOS and Android. The most critical user journeys (subscription, strong authentication, claim declaration with photo capture, payment) require a level of fluidity, system integration, and performance mastery that the company does not wish to delegate to an abstraction layer.
This redesign is based on a mobile BFF (Backend For Frontend) to be built, which absorbs the heterogeneity of the historical platform and exposes API contracts tailored for mobile use to both applications.
Missions
Tools & Environment
- Be the guarantor of the application architecture for both platforms and their convergence: same patterns, same conventions, same quality guarantees, without denying what pertains to the specific idioms of each ecosystem.
- Drive structuring decisions on the iOS side and their equivalents on the Android side.
- Keep the applications aligned with Apple's and Google's annual evolutions (new OS versions, deprecations, publication requirements) and anticipate their impacts rather than suffering them.
- Be the guarantor of the actually perceived experience.
- Design, develop, and maintain the mobile BFF in a technical environment (.NET and C# on Azure), with the same level of requirement as the application code.
- Be the guarantor of the technical-functional boundary of the BFF: aggregation, adaptation, and optimization for mobile use, without absorbing business logic that belongs to the domains.
- Be the guarantor of contract backward compatibility, in a context where several versions of the application coexist durably on customer devices.
- Define with the domain teams the API contracts that the applications need, champion the mobile need upstream of their decisions, and contribute to the convergence of the platform towards business-oriented APIs.
- Secure the predictability of publications: controlled cadence on the App Store and Play Store, ability to deliver and disable a feature without depending on a validation cycle (feature flags, progressive rollouts).
- Be the guarantor of the build chain and the coordination of tests for both applications and the BFF, and of end-to-end observability (crash reporting, correlated traces from the device to upstream APIs) allowing incident diagnosis.
- Support iOS and Android engineers in their skill development (demanding code reviews, pair programming, knowledge transfer) and disseminate the company's mobile standards.
- Translate platform constraints into understandable trade-offs for Product, Design, and Marketing teams, and inform their prioritization decisions.
- Mobile: Swift, Swift UI, Webview, Kotlin, Flutter, React Native
- Hosting: Microsoft Azure
- Backend: .NET and C# ecosystem
- APIs: RESTful today organized around technical primitives, engaged in a rationalization trajectory towards business-oriented APIs
- CI/CD: Azure DevOps (to be built, consolidated for mobile)
- Observability: Dynatrace, ELK
