Job description

We are looking for an environment advisor to bridge the gap between water projects and stakeholders, facilitating participation and ensuring project success. This role involves engaging with communities and various stakeholders to integrate their interests into water management projects.

Project overview

Water connects. And you too. For a temporary addition, we are looking for an environment advisor who bridges the gap between our projects and the people involved. From kitchen table conversations to participation processes: you ensure that interests are heard and projects can continue successfully. This way, you contribute directly to a liveable and water-rich environment.

Environment Advisor (team IWP for project Oude Vaart / Wold Aa)

32-36 hours per week, period November 1, 2026 to October 31, 2027

Location Zwolle

Assignment:

In the role of environment advisor, you will work within the Program for Integrated Water Systems Projects (IWP). Within this program, we are working on projects to improve water quality according to the Water Framework Directive and are looking for space for water according to the National Water Accord. We also address other tasks within the same watercourse in these projects. You will work on the project ‘KRW/NBW Oude Vaart / Wold Aa’.

As an environment advisor, you are part of the Environment team, led by the environment manager, which also includes another environment advisor. This project has a duration of approximately 5 to 6 years. We are currently in the exploration phase, where we gather and assess a lot of information from the area. To get the project off the ground, consultation with the environment is essential. This means having many conversations with residents, landowners, farmers, authorized bodies, and other stakeholders.

In this project, you will be jointly responsible for the environmental process, working on participation moments, kitchen table conversations, and procedures. You will represent the water board externally. You will also record environmental wishes and advise the project team on how these wishes can be incorporated into the project.

You will be on campus and/or on the road for several days a week to manage the environmental process.

About the client:

Working at Water Board Drents Overijsselse Delta means working for an organization that connects living, working, and nature with water. We are an ambitious organization and want to provide the highest quality care for safe, clean, and sufficient water. Our work area is diverse and engaging, stretching from Assen to Deventer. We work in a dynamic environment on socially relevant tasks.

The Project Realization department is responsible for carrying out projects (‘works’) across our entire water board: we are responsible for the construction, redesign, and renovation of assets in the areas of water systems, water safety, and water chains. We deliver the required quality, with attention to the environment, administrative, and social consequences within the constraints of time and budget.

The execution of these projects is done according to the principle of integrated project management (IPM). We work closely with the market in, for example, construction teams or 2-phase contracts, where partnership, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement are important components.
