Analytics Engineer Senior - Freelance

Project overview

Context

The client is looking for a senior freelance Analytics Engineer to industrialize their data-driven decision-making by transforming multi-source data into clean models and dashboards for business departments.

The target profile must be able to frame business needs, model data (dbt, SQL) in a cloud warehouse, and then deliver decision dashboards (Tableau, Power BI, or Looker). They will be involved end-to-end, from gathering requirements to production deployment and user training.

A senior Analytics Engineer with at least 5 years of experience, comfortable with both data modeling and BI delivery to business departments.

Appreciated

• Gathering and analyzing needs from business teams (sales, finance, marketing, operations), translated into actionable KPIs and documented business rules.
• Data modeling: dbt models, semantic layers, star schemas, quality tests, and documentation.
• Designing and industrializing ELT/ETL pipelines on a cloud data lake (Airflow orchestration or equivalent, GitLab CI/CD).
• Developing reporting dashboards (Tableau, Power BI, or Looker), with DAX/LookML measures, row-level security, and a polished user experience.
• Migrating reports from a legacy tool to a modern platform: reconstruction, acceptance testing, documentation, and change management.
• Implementing a data catalog and mapping dictionaries between group repositories and local definitions.
• Training and supporting users, including in group sessions.
• Participating in the team's agile rituals (sprints, Jira ticket tracking, business testing).
• More than 5 years of experience in data analytics / analytics engineering, including assignments in large corporations.
• Proficiency in SQL and dbt, on a cloud warehouse (Snowflake or BigQuery).
• Expertise in at least one BI tool among Tableau, Power BI, and Looker, with experience in advanced measures (DAX or LookML).
• Experience with orchestrated pipelines (Airflow or Cloud Composer) and a public cloud (GCP or AWS).
• Ability to frame needs with business stakeholders and translate them into KPIs.
• Fluent French and professional English.
• Python for automation and transformations.
• Experience migrating reports (e.g., SAP BusinessObjects to Tableau).
• Implementation of data catalogs, governance, and quality controls.
• Experience in distribution, retail, luxury, or transport sectors.
• Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD, Jira, and Confluence.
• Spanish.
