Optimization and reduction of hit volume in sanctions screening with NMT

Objective: Data-based and risk-oriented reduction of false positives while maintaining adequate detection performance for relevant sanctions risks.

If this sounds like a good fit, I look forward to your feedback, which you can also send to d.schwandner a sthree.com

  • Sanctions screening in payment transactions: Sound practical experience in screening payment transactions, especially SEPA, SWIFT/TARGET, and ideally Instant Payments.
  • ACTICO NMT / Screening Systems: Very good knowledge of ACTICO Name Matching Transaction (NMT) or comparable screening systems, as well as understanding of the process chain normalization, selection, matching, rating, whitelisting, and hit exceptions.
  • Name and Fuzzy Matching: In-depth knowledge of relevant matching methods, especially Jaro/Jaro-Winkler, JaroWinklerTFIDF, Double Metaphone, as well as token-based comparisons.
  • False Positive Optimization: Proven experience in the targeted reduction of false positives without unduly compromising detection performance for relevant sanctions risks.
  • Parameter and Threshold Optimization: Experience with the analysis and optimization of matching parameters and minimum scores, as well as with the evaluation of their impact on hit volume and hit quality.
  • Normalization and Name Variants: Knowledge of noise words, aliases, alternative spellings, phonetics, titles, abbreviations, and name components as levers for hit optimization.
  • Sanctions Lists and Data Providers: Good knowledge of sanctions lists and commercial list data providers, ideally World-Check including keywords and umbrella keywords.
  • Data Analysis: Strong ability to analyze large historical hit inventories and identify key false positive drivers; ideally very good knowledge of SQL and Python or R.
  • Whitelisting and Hit Exceptions: Experience with the controlled use of whitelists, hit exceptions, and hit qualities to reduce recurring, irrelevant hits.
  • Testing and Validation: Proven competence in before/after analyses, positive/negative tests, and regression tests to demonstrably prove the impact of each optimization.
