Job description

As a Business Analyst for Data Management, you will translate business needs into concrete requirements for Data Products and the setup of a Data Management Platform. You will identify the underlying needs and align them with data and platform engineers.

Project overview

Assignment Description

As a Business Analyst Data Management, you are responsible for translating business needs into concrete requirements for the realization of Data Products and the setup of a Data Management Platform. You know how to uncover the question behind the question and align it with data and platform engineers. You will create epics and play a connecting role during the discovery and realization phase. Your knowledge and experience in the field of data and data management make you an ambassador within the Defense organization and a valuable sparring partner within the project team.

Of course, you will not do this alone. The project team is led by a project leader, consists of two data management experts who implement central service and federated data management, and is accompanied by an enterprise data architect who ensures the vision and alignment with other initiatives. In addition, data engineers will build data products, and platform engineers will implement and configure a data management platform.

Working within Defense means you work in a challenging IT landscape. Defense is working towards a federated Data Architecture. This means that each defense component is responsible for its own data management activities, for which the policy, frameworks, and tooling will be made available centrally (with broad alignment). Defense is located throughout the Netherlands, so travel may be part of your role. The home base is (the Kromhoutkazerne) Utrecht, but activities (such as meetings) may also take place at other locations.

Background of the assignment

As a Business Analyst in the Data Management for Reliable AI project, you are part of the Joint Information Provision Command (JIVC), which is part of the Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT). The command is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of concrete IT products and services based on the needs of the other defense components.

Defense is in a period of accelerated digital transformation. On the one hand, the increasing digitalization of the battlefield and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) require modern, reliable, and well-managed data. The use of data is essential in carrying out operational as well as strategic, decision-making, and analytical tasks and responsibilities. On the other hand, the organization must increase its agility to operate effectively within a rapidly changing international context, where data can be shared safely and in a controlled manner between operational units, partners, and allies.

To meet these challenges, Defense wants to transform from a largely centralized data architecture to a federated data architecture.
