Job description
Freelance Cloud Engineer needed to operate and expand an existing Azure environment for a Databricks data platform, supporting new AI initiatives in pricing and product recommendations.
Project overview
For a client from the construction-related wholesale sector with over 100 locations in Germany, we are looking for a freelance Cloud Engineer. The company's data platform runs on Databricks in Azure and supports two new AI projects: data-based pricing and product recommendations for existing customers.
Capacity is lacking on the cloud side. We are looking for someone to operate and expand the Azure environment, ensuring the data operations can run stably and securely. Collaboration will be close with the internal IT department and the AI profile, which is being filled concurrently for the same projects.
Responsibilities
- Operation and expansion of the existing Azure environment
- Provisioning and stabilization of the infrastructure on which the Databricks platform is based
- Administration of Databricks, including workspaces, cluster policies, and permissions
- Network and access rights, including secure connection of external employees
- Technical support for AI projects on the infrastructure side
- Control and optimization of Azure costs
- Coordination with internal IT and business departments
Requirements
Advantageous
Framework
- Several years of experience as a Cloud Engineer, Platform Engineer, or DevOps Engineer in Azure
- Built or taken over and operated an Azure environment for a data platform
- Administered Azure Databricks
- Terraform or Bicep in productive use, with versioning in Git and deployment via pipelines
- Network and identity, including VNet, Private Endpoints, and Entra ID
- Permission concepts via groups
- Experience collaborating with data teams
- Azure Data Factory or comparable pipelines
- AKS and Kubernetes
- GPU compute and model serving for LLM workloads
- Building a Landing Zone
- Experience in established environments
- Start December 2026
- Duration at least 6 months, extension planned
- Utilization 3 to 5 days per week
