Job description
Hogeschool Rotterdam is seeking a Data Engineer to build a new data platform supporting management reporting and decentralized development. The role involves designing data models, pipelines, and datasets, and collaborating with various teams.
Project overview
Experience with data modeling, for example with OOAPI and other relevant standards, and with designing logical and physical data models.
At Hogeschool Rotterdam, we work together on the future. With 39,000 students and 4,200 employees, we are a knowledge institution that offers practice-oriented solutions for societal issues. Our goal is to prepare students for the jobs of today and tomorrow. We help (young) people on their way in their professional development, with the student's success at the center.
Job Description
This position is part of the institution's broader digitalization agenda, which also includes building a renewed IAM and integration platform, and you play a key role in this. You will build this new data platform that will structurally and future-proof support management reporting and the decentralized development of approximately 10 FTE.
You ensure that data is available in a structured, reliable, and meaningful way for education, research, and operations. You operate at the intersection of information analysis, data modeling, and data architecture.
Responsibilities
Competencies
- You translate information needs into data models and data structures, fitting within organization-wide standards;
- You design and realize data pipelines and datasets for reports, dashboards, and analytics, working towards replacing the current legacy solution;
- You apply and extend sector standards such as OOAPI and organization-specific data models;
- You coordinate with IAM and Integration colleagues within your team regarding authorization, data accessibility, and data quality;
- You collaborate with BI and analytics teams on sustainable, well-documented data solutions;
- In the first ninety days, you will determine the roadmap together with the team. In the first year, you will seek a balance between replacing the legacy environment and new construction, with AI and the Datalabs as new, emerging projects.
- Knowledge transfer to internal staff.
- Experience with data modeling, for example with OOAPI and other relevant standards, and with designing logical and physical data models;
- Knowledge of SQL and experience with data warehousing, data lakes, or modern analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and OneLake;
- Experience with BI solutions and reporting tools such as Power BI, and basic knowledge of data visualization principles;
- Programming experience, preferably in C#/.NET, and experience with web APIs and formats like JSON, YAML, and XML. Data engineering is the core of this role; C#/.NET experience is desired, but a strong profile in data sources and data modeling weighs the heaviest;
- Understanding of data and information analysis, data quality, metadata and governance, and the ability to translate complex data issues into clear solutions for business stakeholders;
- Experience working in an agile/Scrum environment. You dare to speak up about what can be done differently, better, or more effectively, and help the team grow with it. We consider this as important as your technical background;
- Seniority is currently decisive: we are looking for someone who can provide direction independently, not just execute;
- Good Dutch language proficiency in speech and writing.
