Data Migration Lead

Project overview

Note! Freelance is possible. Assignment Description The organization is replacing the existing central data warehouse with a new data platform based on decentralized Data Stacks. Existing datasets, data products, data chains, and ETL processes will be migrated in phases to a new data architecture and new ETL tooling. This transition affects more than 25 autonomous DevOps teams, spread across different data domains and Agile Release Trains (ARTs) within a complex SAFe organization. Each team has its own responsibilities, capacity, and priorities.

As Data Migration Lead, you are responsible for developing an integrated migration strategy and translating it into a concrete, scalable execution approach. You will organize central coordination and ensure coherence between the different teams, technical dependencies, and organizational interests. The migration aims to further improve data classification, data ownership, and access control. You combine strategic overview with in-depth technical migration knowledge and a strong focus on actual execution. In this role, you will interact with senior management, architects, technical specialists, and DevOps teams.

You will ensure that the migration is carried out in a manageable, predictable, and results-oriented manner. What will you do?

• Develop an integrated migration strategy for the transition to decentralized Data Stacks.
• Translate the migration strategy into a concrete execution organization and phased approach.
• Coordinate migration activities across more than 25 autonomous DevOps teams and multiple ARTs.
• Organize central facilities and support for the involved teams.
• Monitor progress, dependencies, risks, and decision-making.
• Liaise with architects, technical specialists, DevOps teams, and senior management.
• Mobilize teams and align migration activities with competing priorities.
• Achieve concrete migration results and monitor the coherence between strategy and execution. Hard requirements (respond only if you meet these)
• Demonstrable experience in leading large-scale and complex data migrations.
• Independently executed complex data migrations.
• Sufficient technical knowledge to assess substantive migration choices.
• Experience in developing migration strategies and translating them into a concrete execution organization.
• Experience with complex stakeholder environments, dependencies, decision-making, and governance.
• Experience with autonomous DevOps teams.
• Understanding of decentralized data operating models, including Data Mesh, data domains, and data products. Assignment Details

• Extension: Yes, every 6 months
• Hours: 36–40 hours per week

• Hybrid: 2 days in the office
• Rate: 90-105 per hour
• Structure: Freelance or secondment In the initial period, extra presence at the office is expected. Flexibility is desired due to different fixed office days of the involved teams. Competencies
