Database Specialist

Project overview

For deployment with our client in Zurich, we are looking for a Database Specialist.

As part of the project, external support is sought with expertise in PostgreSQL and Azure infrastructure. The tasks include the further development and automation of the existing PostgreSQL Flexible Server landscape, which currently comprises over 100 servers and around 700 databases.

Responsibilities

• Evaluation of the current infrastructure with over one hundred PostgreSQL flexible servers and approximately seven hundred databases
• Identification of weaknesses, bottlenecks, and optimization potential regarding performance, scalability, and security.
• Handling of incidents and requests within the scope of operational activities.
• Development and implementation of automation solutions for provisioning, configuration, scaling, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
• Use of modern automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or comparable technologies.
• Ensuring high scalability and efficiency through Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
• Implementation of best practices for performance tuning, security configurations, and high availability.
• Monitoring and optimization of database performance, including troubleshooting and error correction.
• Close collaboration with the internal team to understand requirements and develop tailored solutions.
• Creation of clear and comprehensive documentation for the developed processes and solutions.

Requirements

• Demonstrable expertise in the administration, optimization, operation, and automation of PostgreSQL databases, especially in complex and large-scale environments.
• Knowledge of Azure infrastructure
• Sound experience with Azure Cloud, particularly with the operation and management of PostgreSQL Flexible Servers.
• In-depth knowledge in the development and implementation of automation solutions for database provisioning, backup and recovery processes, monitoring, and scaling mechanisms.
• Knowledge of automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies is required.
• Proven experience in implementing measures to ensure stable and secure database operation, including the application of best practices for performance tuning,
• Security configurations and high availability solutions.
• Ability to support the internal team through targeted advice and training to ensure sustainable further development and long-term operation of the PostgreSQL landscape.
• German: C1 – Professional language use
• English: B2 – Upper Intermediate – First (FCE)
• No subcontracting allowed!
