Project overview
We are seeking a freelance Electrical Site Supervisor / Technischer Bauüberwacher to support the modification and extension of an existing high-voltage substation. The work will be carried out in stages, maintaining the operation of unaffected parts of the station. Your main responsibility will be to check that subcontractors execute the work correctly against the supplied engineering drawings, technical specifications and customer requirements.
This is a practical, site-based supervision role — not a design-engineering position or a purely organisational project-management assignment.
Responsibilities
Background and experience
You do not need to be an expert in everything
- Monitor electrical installation work: Check execution across primary equipment and secondary-system interfaces, including switchgear, transformers, cabling and control/protection cabinets.
- Prepare for upcoming activities: Review the relevant drawings, specifications and customer requirements in advance, identifying the points that need checking on site.
- Maintain installation quality: Recognise deviations, document findings and follow up corrective actions with contractors and engineering.
- Coordinate site interfaces: Keep communication clear between installation teams, subcontractors, project management and engineering, including during staged modifications and commissioning preparation.
- Maintain project documentation: Record checks, outstanding items and progress, supporting an orderly handover of completed work.
- You must bring a sound practical understanding of 110 kV or 380 kV substations, gained through electrical installation, service, commissioning, technical supervision or Bauleitung. A basic understanding is a hard requirement, do no apply without knowledge of 110kV or higher.
- You will need to be comfortable reading electrical drawings and technical documents, understanding the relevant primary and secondary systems, and checking whether the installation matches the requirements. This can be learnt on the job.
- A methodical, quality-focused approach and willingness to read, prepare and learn are essential. You should be confident discussing discrepancies with contractors and referring engineering questions to the appropriate specialists.
- German must be sufficient for technical documentation and effective site communication; native German is not required.
- The engineering team provides the designs and technical plans. You are not expected to design or program protection/control systems, or personally perform every specialist installation task.
- Time is available within the assignment to study project-specific documents and prepare for upcoming activities. Candidates with a relevant service or commissioning background can be considered, even without a long career under the title Baustellenleiter.
- Previous brownfield experience is helpful, but greenfield substation experience is also acceptable where the technical foundation and quality mindset are strong.
