Position: Circuit Design Engineer

Cincinnati, OH

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced PCB Layout Designer to support the development of advanced, high-reliability electronic products for aerospace, defense, space, and other mission-critical applications. This role will be responsible for transforming complex electrical schematics and system requirements into manufacturable, production-ready printed circuit board (PCB) designs while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with high-density, multilayer PCB layouts and a strong understanding of PCB fabrication, assembly processes, and industry design standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop complex, high-density, multilayer PCB layouts using Xpedition or similar PCB design tools.

Perform component placement and routing for high-speed digital, RF, mixed-signal, and power circuit designs.

Interpret electrical schematics, design constraints, and mechanical requirements to create optimized PCB layouts.

Generate and maintain PCB and Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) manufacturing documentation, including fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, artwork, and release packages.

Apply IPC standards and high-reliability design practices throughout the PCB development lifecycle.

Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, test, and signal integrity engineers to ensure successful product development.

Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) reviews.

Support fabrication and assembly suppliers by addressing design-related manufacturing questions and constraints.

Maintain PCB libraries, footprints, symbols, and reusable design elements in accordance with company standards.

Own PCB layout activities from initial concept through fabrication release while supporting program schedules, cost objectives, and technical requirements.

Lead advanced PCB design initiatives involving HDI technologies, microvias, via-in-pad, backdrilling, and other advanced interconnect techniques.

Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and design reviews for junior team members when required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Minimum 8+ years of professional PCB layout experience using Xpedition or comparable PCB design platforms.

Experience designing and routing complex multilayer, high-density printed circuit boards.

Experience with high-speed digital, RF, mixed-signal, and/or power electronics layouts.

Strong understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes, including manufacturability and yield considerations.

Familiarity with IPC standards and high-reliability PCB design methodologies.

Experience creating PCB fabrication packages, assembly documentation, and manufacturing deliverables.

Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.

Strong analytical, organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to adapt to changing project priorities and technical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in advanced PCB technologies, including:

High-Density Interconnect (HDI)

Microvias

Via-in-Pad

Backdrilling

Advanced substrate materials

Experience with:

RF circuit layouts

High-speed digital signal routing

Mixed-signal system designs

Power electronics PCB design

Knowledge of:

PCB library development and management

Symbol and footprint creation

PCB process workflows and governance

Experience supporting products requiring stringent reliability, documentation, quality, and traceability standards.

Familiarity with industry standards such as:

IPC Class 3 / Class 3A

MIL-PRF-31032

MIL-STD-883

Other high-reliability electronic hardware standards

Ability to translate complex electrical and mechanical constraints into optimized PCB solutions.

Medical, dental, and vision insurance are available to qualified candidates who meet eligibility requirements.
