Engineering Manager – Offshore Wind

Project overview

Dear Sir/Madam,

On behalf of my client, I am looking for an experienced Engineering Manager (m/f/d) for the large-scale Ostwind 4 (OW4) project.

Ostwind 4 is 50Hertz's fourth offshore grid connection project and connects wind farm areas northeast of Rügen to the German mainland. The project transmits 2 GW of power using 525 kV HVDC technology (High Voltage Direct Current transmission) – a first in the German Baltic Sea. Planned are an offshore converter platform, an onshore converter station, and a DC cable system (~110 km offshore + 4 km onshore). The project supplies approximately 2 million households and is located in the Arcona Basin, about 30 km northeast of Rügen.

• Overall responsibility for all engineering management activities (systems engineering, technical requirements, cost, quality, scheduling)
• Interface management between engineering disciplines, project packages, EPCI contractors, procurement, logistics, permitting authorities, and certification bodies
• Leading and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Establishing engineering governance processes and decision-making frameworks
• Ensuring the integrity of the system architecture across all project packages
• Responsibility for QA, compliance, and technical risk management
• Overseeing commissioning, testing strategies, and acceptance plans
• Regular reporting to project management and senior management
• Point of contact for external stakeholders, clients, and authorities

Requirements

Important note: This position is at the level of a Level 3 / Package Manager in large infrastructure projects (HVDC, EPCI). The focus is on leading engineering organizations and engineering governance — not on the personal creation of specifications or individual technical tasks.

• Completed university degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, or similar)
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in engineering, demonstrably in complex large-scale projects and multidisciplinary tasks
• English C1 (written and spoken) — mandatory
• Experience in leading engineering teams in large-scale projects or programs
• Knowledge of Systems Integration, Engineering Governance, HSE, QMS, and regulatory requirements
• Experience in managing technical risks, interfaces, and stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle
• International project experience is an advantage
