Job description
Experienced Fleet/Maintenance Engineer (m/w/d) sought for long-term technical support of an existing light rail fleet, focusing on independent analysis and assessment of technical damage and maintenance needs.
Project overview
For an established transport company in the Bonn area, we are looking for an experienced Fleet Engineer / Maintenance Engineer (m/f/d) for the long-term technical support of an existing light rail fleet.
The focus is on the independent analysis and assessment of technical damage, wear, and anomalies in rail vehicles during ongoing operation.
We are looking for a technically adept individual who can independently assess workshop findings, derive necessary maintenance measures, and document them comprehensibly.
Responsibilities
-
Technical Damage Analysis: Independent investigation and assessment of defects, damage patterns, and technical anomalies in rail vehicles.
Assessment of Vehicle Components: Evaluation of the technical condition, particularly of wheelsets, axle shafts, bogies, and braking systems.
Wear and Limit Value Assessment: Checking tolerances, limit dimensions, and wear limits based on current technical specifications and maintenance documents.
Derivation of Technical Measures: Development of concrete recommendations for repairs, maintenance, further investigations, and necessary servicing.
Technical Documentation: Creation of damage reports, technical statements, recommendations for action, and maintenance instructions.
Collaboration with Workshop: Technical coordination with maintenance, operations, and technical departments for sustainable resolution of technical problems.
Maintenance Optimization: Support in evaluating and further developing existing maintenance processes and servicing specifications.
Requirements
Absolutely required:
-
Several years of practical experience in the technical maintenance of rail vehicles, ideally light rail, trams, subways, locomotives, or multiple units.
Demonstrable experience in the independent technical assessment of damage, root causes, and maintenance requirements.
Sound understanding of mechanical and electromechanical vehicle components.
Experience in handling technical specifications, tolerances, wear limits, and maintenance documentation.
Ability to independently assess technical issues and formulate concrete recommendations for action.
Completed degree in Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Technology, or a comparable field. Alternatively, a state-certified technician with corresponding extensive professional experience.
Very good German language skills.
Particularly desirable:
Experience in Fleet Engineering or maintenance development at rail vehicle manufacturers, railway operators, or maintenance workshops.
Knowledge of maintenance for wheelsets, bogies, and braking systems.
Experience with Root Cause Analysis, technical damage assessments, and maintenance optimization.
Knowledge of ECM processes, especially ECM 2 and ECM 3.
Framework Conditions
The project is designed for the long term and offers a high degree of independent technical responsibility.
An initial on-site phase in Bonn, expected to last two weeks, is planned for onboarding. Afterwards, predominantly remote work is possible, with regular presence of about one day per week.
The focus is on technical analysis and maintenance engineering, not on operational assembly, pure testing, or classic project management.
Interested?
If you have already independently assessed technical damage to rail vehicles and derived corresponding maintenance measures, I look forward to hearing from you.
Please send me your current CV, along with brief information on your availability, your hourly rate, and your potential presence in Bonn.
