Job description
Seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with a focus on network architecture, requirements engineering, and communication systems for a challenging project in secure, mission-critical communication. The role involves designing and evolving the network architecture of a modern communication platform based on cloud-native Kubernetes and embedded systems.
Project overview
Hello everyone,
for one of our clients in the defense sector, we are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer (m/f/d) with a focus on network architecture, requirements engineering, and communication systems.
As part of a challenging project in the area of secure, mission-critical communication, you will be responsible for the conception and further development of the network architecture of a modern communication platform.
The focus is on system architecture, deriving technical requirements, defining interfaces, and developing security and communication concepts.
The platform is based on a cloud-native Kubernetes environment and distributed embedded systems.
Responsibilities
Conception and further development of the system and network architecture for complex communication systems
Derivation and specification of system and subsystem requirements from business and technical requirements
Execution of requirements engineering, including end-to-end traceability of requirements to tests
Creation, coordination, and documentation of interface control documents (ICDs)
Development of network architectures for IP-based communication systems
Conception of communication authorizations, role, and policy models
Development of security, segmentation, and prioritization concepts
Definition of test and verification strategies at the system level and corresponding acceptance criteria
Coordination of technical requirements and architectural decisions with development teams and external partners
Ensuring the technical feasibility of system requirements in cloud-native and embedded environments
Requirements (Must-have)
Several years of professional experience in Systems Engineering, ideally at least 5 years
Sound knowledge in requirements engineering and the derivation of system and subsystem requirements
Experience with end-to-end traceability of requirements to verification
Experience in creating and coordinating interface control documents (ICDs)
Sound knowledge in the architecture of IP-based networks (IPv4/IPv6, routing, addressing, network segmentation)
Experience with the conception of communication authorizations, role, and policy models
Knowledge in the development of test and verification strategies at the system level
Basic understanding of cloud-native architectures, especially Kubernetes, microservices, and CI/CD
Willingness to undergo security screening according to SÜG (Ü2, possibly Ü3)
Very good German and good English skills
Desirable Knowledge (Nice-to-have)
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, Cameo, or Capella
Software Defined Networking (SDN), Control and Data Plane
Network architectures with changing topologies, mesh networks, and Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN)
Tactical or military communication systems
Network management according to FCAPS
Network simulation and emulation with ns-3 or Containerlab
Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL)
Basic programming skills in C++, Go, or Python
Experience with embedded systems and resource-constrained platforms
Project experience in defense, aviation, or critical infrastructure
Experience in complex projects with multiple development teams and external suppliers
If interested, I look forward to receiving your CV and your hourly rate. If suitable, we will gladly arrange an appointment to discuss the details!
Best regards,
Florian Gaudchau
