Freelancer System and Application Management – Linux / Ansible / MySQL | 100% Remote

Project overview

For an exciting client, I am looking for an experienced freelancer (m/f/d) in System and Application Management starting mid-November 2026 to support an extensive update project.

As part of the project, existing server and database environments will be gradually updated. The implementation will take place in several phases, initially in close cooperation with the responsible data center. As the project progresses, technical coordination will increasingly take place directly with the IT managers of the connected organizations.

You will accompany the update processes from updating the servers, preparing the data, setting up the database, to deploying the data using Ansible. You will monitor the individual process steps, check the results, and ensure through comprehensive tests that the updates are carried out cleanly and reliably.

The required scripts are already available. New development is not necessary. It is crucial that you understand the existing scripts and their functionality, can follow the workflows, and can technically assess the results. If problems arise, you will analyze the causes and escalate them to the responsible colleagues if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Execution and support of server updates based on openSUSE Leap
• Preparation and completion of data using existing scripts
• Setup and configuration of the MySQL database environment
• Installation and configuration of required components, especially Apache Tomcat
• Data deployment using Ansible
• Monitoring of update processes and control of correct execution
• Execution of comprehensive tests to ensure data integrity and system functionality
• Review of results and ensuring a smooth process
• Analysis of occurring errors and structured escalation of more complex problems to responsible colleagues
• Technical coordination with the data center and, in the further course of the project, with the IT managers of the connected organizations

• Very good knowledge of Linux system administration
• Experience with openSUSE Leap or comparable SUSE Linux environments
• Profound knowledge of MySQL
• Practical experience with Ansible and automated processes
• Knowledge of Apache Tomcat
• Ability to understand existing scripts and technically assess their execution
• Experience in error analysis and technical troubleshooting
• Careful, structured, and independent way of working
• Strong quality awareness and high diligence in tests and system updates
• Ability to recognize problems independently and escalate them purposefully if necessary
• Experience with comparable update, rollout, or migration projects
• Good German language skills for technical coordination with various contact persons
