HSE Auditor / Construction Safety Assurance Consultant – Freelance

Project overview

For a long-term and highly confidential construction program in the critical infrastructure sector, we are currently looking for 1-2 freelance HSE Auditors.

Important Note: Due to strict confidentiality requirements, information about the end customer cannot be disclosed in advance. Further project details will be provided during the selection process and before a client meeting.

Project

As part of a multi-year audit program, you will be responsible for the independent assessment of safety-critical activities on active large construction sites. The goal is to identify potential SIF risks (Serious Injuries & Fatalities) and to verify whether critical safety barriers are effectively implemented and maintained.

The focus is not on document review, but on the actual implementation of safety measures on site.

Activities to be reviewed include, but are not limited to:

• Live working / Energization
• Crane and lifting operations
• Working at height
• Confined Space Entry
• Civil engineering and earthworks
• Use of heavy construction machinery
• Commissioning activities

Responsibilities

• Conducting independent construction safety audits on active construction sites
• Assessment of High-Risk Activities and Critical Controls
• Review of RAMS, JHAs, AHAs, and work permits
• Reconciliation between planning and actual execution
• Interviews with construction management, supervisory staff, and execution teams
• Verification of the effectiveness of critical safety barriers
• Identification and escalation of critical risks
• Documentation of findings and recommendations for action
• Tracking of recurring weaknesses and risk patterns
• Creation of audit reports and trend analyses

Requirements

Framework Conditions

• SIFA / FASI or comparable qualification
• Several years of experience in high-risk construction projects
• Demonstrable audit, assurance, or compliance experience in the construction environment
• Very good understanding of Critical Controls and SIF Prevention
• Experience on the owner, contractor, or client side is an advantage
• Experience in complex construction projects
• Ideally, experience in the data center, energy, pharmaceutical, industrial, or infrastructure sector
• ISO 45001 Lead Auditor or comparable audit qualification is an advantage
• Very good English skills
• Good German skills
• Start: Ideally before Christmas, January at the latest
• Duration: Approximately 2-3 years
• Workload: approx. 15-20 audits per month including preparation and follow-up
• Area of deployment: predominantly Rhein-Main area / Frankfurt region
• Contract type: Freelance
• Daily rate: up to approx. €1,000 all-in
