HSE Manager – Biogas / Plant Construction | Freelance

We are looking for an experienced HSE Manager to support various projects in gas treatment and biogas plants for an internationally active company in the field of renewable energies and industrial plant construction.

The focus is on the support, modernization, and expansion of existing plants as well as the integration of new plant technology. In this role, you will ensure compliance with health, work, and safety requirements and support the project teams both organizationally and directly on-site.

We are looking for a pragmatic and assertive personality who not only documents safety standards but also actively supports their practical implementation.

Responsibilities

Support and further development of HSE processes in the environment of gas treatment, biogas, and industrial plant construction

Conducting site inductions, safety briefings, and training for subcontractors

Regular HSE walkdowns and site inspections

Evaluation, documentation, and follow-up of Site Observation Reports

Checking sub-suppliers and requesting and evaluating Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMs)

Monitoring compliance with safety standards during assembly, modification, and commissioning work

Implementation and control of Lockout/Tagout procedures (LOTO), including safe plant shutdowns and interlocks

Maintenance and adaptation of internal HSE guidelines, safety specifications, and documentation

Identification of hazards and initiation of appropriate corrective and preventive measures

Close cooperation with project management, site managers, and the central HSE team

Requirements

Completed technical training or degree, for example in engineering, safety technology, or environmental management

Several years of relevant professional experience in HSE management

Mandatory: Experience in the field of gas, biogas, wastewater technology, sewage treatment plants, or comparable technical plants

Good technical understanding of gas and pressure applications

Experience in checking sub-suppliers and controlling safety measures on construction sites

Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and safe handling of technical equipment

Experience with RAMs, risk assessments, and construction site safety concepts

Independent, structured, and solution-oriented way of working

Assertiveness and the ability to consistently address safety violations and stop work if necessary

Advantageous:

Experience in biogas plant construction or with gas network operators

Qualification or training according to TRGS 529

Experience with the modernization and expansion of existing industrial plants

Framework Conditions

Assignment primarily in Bavaria with regular assignments at plants and construction sites

Willingness to travel within Germany and the DACH region; prospectively also assignments in France

Planned project duration initially 6 months, with a good prospect of extension
