Do you want to contribute to one of the largest energy infrastructure projects in the Netherlands? The Delta Rhine Corridor (DRC) is developing a new transport network for CO? and hydrogen and forms an essential link in the energy transition. For both systems, new transport pipelines, valve schematics, tie-in schematics, and pumping stations are being developed between the German border, Moerdijk, and Maasvlakte.
For the DRC project, we are looking for an Instrumentation Engineer who will be involved in the design and further development towards FEED and realization from the current concept selection phase. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to be involved in the development of new CO? and hydrogen transport systems from the concept selection phase. You will make a significant contribution to technical design choices.
What will you do?
As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will be responsible for the instrumentation design within the CO? part of the Delta Rhine Corridor. You will work closely with process engineers, process control engineers, operations, asset management, and external engineering parties.
You will be involved in the development of new installations for dense phase CO? transport with design pressures up to 200 barg, including valve schematics, tie-in schematics, metering stations, and pumping stations.
Within the field of Instrumentation, you will be responsible for:
Drafting, reviewing, and further developing instrumentation concepts for transport pipelines, valve schematics, tie-in schematics, and pumping stations.
Reviewing and approving the instrumentation content of P&IDs, instrument lists, equipment lists, I/O lists, cable lists, and technical specifications.
Drafting, managing, and reviewing the Metering Philosophy.
Defining, elaborating, and standardizing measurement concepts for pressure, temperature, flow, and quality measurements.
Determining instrumentation requirements for control valves, safety devices, vent and drain systems, pigging facilities, and blowdown systems.
Elaborating the instrumentation for CO? purging, filling, depressurizing, and blowdown facilities.
Providing input and reviewing specifications and datasheets for instrumentation.
Reviewing and approving contractor deliverables within the field of Instrumentation.
Acting as discipline lead Instrumentation towards engineering contractors.
Additionally, from your field, you will provide input to multidisciplinary deliverables and studies, including:
Control & Safeguarding Philosophy.
ESD Philosophy.
Operating Philosophy.
Design Basis.
Codes & Design Criteria.
Equipment List.
Safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and QRA.
Identifying technical risks for dense phase CO? systems and advising on instrumentation solutions during concept selection, FEED, and further project development.
Supporting the transition from concept selection to FEED and then towards execution.
Executing FAT and SAT sessions for instrumentation systems.
You will work in a project environment where not all design assumptions for dense phase CO? have yet been crystallized. From your field, you will provide input for technical choices and ensure that the instrumentation solutions align with the project objectives, operational needs, and safety requirements.
What do you bring?
We are looking for an engineer who is comfortable in an environment where not everything is yet fixed and where technical choices have a significant impact on the future asset.
We ask for:
A completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Measurement and Control Technology, or equivalent.
At least 10 years of experience as an Instrumentation Engineer within CCS, the process industry, energy infrastructure, oil & gas, or comparable sectors.
Experience with FEED and/or basic engineering processes.
Experience with drafting and reviewing P&IDs.
Knowledge of pressure, temperature, flow, and analysis methods.
Experience with valves, actuators, control valves, and safety devices.
Knowledge of relevant standards and norms such as IEC, ISA, and industrial design standards.
Good command of the Dutch and English languages.
Advantageous:
Experience with transport pipelines or compressor/pumping stations.
Experience with functional safety and SIL issues.
Experience with CO?, hydrogen, LNG, or natural gas systems.
Who are you?
You are an independent engineer who combines technical depth with pragmatism. You can switch between conceptual design issues and detail engineering and know how to connect different disciplines.
Additionally, you are:
Strong analytical skills;
Critical regarding safety and quality;
Good communication skills;
Proactive and results-oriented;
A strong discussion partner for contractors and internal stakeholders.
About the department
The Delta Rhine Corridor is one of the most important energy infrastructure projects in the Netherlands. Within the project, new hydrogen and CO? transport connections are being developed between Rotterdam, Moerdijk, Boxtel, and the German border. The CO? system includes transport pipelines, tie-in schematics, valve schematics, metering stations, and pumping stations at Maasvlakte and near Reuver.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary project team where disciplines such as Process, Mechanical, Piping, Civil, Electrical, Process Automation, Operations, and Asset Management work closely together on the development of the future CO? transport network.
Why this role?
This role offers a unique opportunity to be involved in the development of an entirely new CO? transport system from the early design phase. You will work on technical issues that are largely new to Gasunie, such as dense phase CO? transport, pumping stations, metering, safeguarding, and depressurization concepts. You will thus have direct influence on the technical choices that form the basis for the future CO? network.
You will not only help build a project but also a new generation of energy infrastructure.
