Language: English and German fluent

Project details

January 2027

Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Project Buyer to build and drive the procurement function for a major gas-fired power plant project.

This is an operational project procurement role, not a traditional strategic purchasing or category management position. We need someone who understands how procurement works on large construction and infrastructure projects and who knows how to turn project requirements into an effective procurement process.

You will establish the procurement workflow, manage enquiries and tenders, negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors, and ensure that procurement supports the project's cost, schedule and construction objectives.

Candidates with previous gas power plant, power generation or large EPC project experience are particularly welcome.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who has already been through the procurement process on a major construction or infrastructure project and knows what can go wrong: late specifications, incomplete scopes, long-lead equipment, supplier capacity, price escalation, delivery delays and commercial deviations.

You should be comfortable taking ownership, setting up the process and driving procurement forward rather than simply administering an established purchasing system.

  • Establish the project's procurement structure, processes, tools and reporting.
  • Translate project requirements and the construction programme into a clear procurement plan.
  • Identify what needs to be procured, when it is required and what commercial/technical interfaces need to be managed.
  • Manage the complete procurement cycle from market enquiry through tender, negotiation, award and purchase order.
  • Prepare RFQs and coordinate tender processes with engineering and project teams.
  • Obtain and analyse supplier quotations and prepare commercial bid comparisons.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties and other commercial conditions.
  • Select and manage suppliers and subcontractors in coordination with the project team.
  • Track orders, manufacturing, delivery and supplier performance.
  • Identify long-lead equipment and materials and proactively manage procurement risks.
  • Ensure procurement activities remain aligned with the project schedule and budget.
  • Maintain procurement trackers, commitments, forecasts and management reports.
  • Work closely with engineering, construction, project controls, commercial and finance functions.
  • Support the management of supplier changes, variations, delays and commercial issues.
  • Escalate procurement risks early and develop mitigation measures.
  • Build a reliable supplier base for the project and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • 8+ years of hands-on project procurement experience on major construction, infrastructure, energy or EPC projects.
  • Demonstrable experience managing procurement in a large-scale project environment.
  • Experience setting up procurement processes, systems and workflows for a project.
  • Strong practical understanding of construction and infrastructure procurement.
  • Experience managing RFQs, tenders, bid evaluations, negotiations and purchase orders.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to assess supplier offers beyond price alone.
  • Experience managing long-lead items, supplier schedules and procurement interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of the interaction between procurement, engineering, construction and project controls.
  • Experience in gas-fired power plants or other power generation projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with major EPC contractors, OEMs, equipment suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Structured, hands-on and proactive working style.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Fluent English; German is advantageous.
  • Start: 2027-01
  • Duration: 12 Monate
  • Remote: onsite
  • Location: Hannover, Deutschland, DE
  • Languages: English
