Focus: Architecture Consulting and Quality Assurance

For a consulting project, we are looking for an experienced freelancer with practical expertise in Istio Service Mesh. The goal is the conception and quality assurance of an Istio-based service mesh architecture that improves the cloud portability of a Kubernetes environment and facilitates switching between cloud providers.

Responsibilities

Creation of a technical concept for the deployment of Istio Service Mesh in a multi-cloud or cloud-agnostic Kubernetes environment

Evaluation of the architecture regarding cloud portability, interoperability, and switching options between cloud providers

Definition of architecture standards, security requirements, and best practices

Review and quality assurance of existing concepts and technical implementations

Identification of technical risks and dependencies when migrating between cloud providers

Requirements

The focus is on your practical experience with Istio Service Mesh, ideally from productive enterprise projects. In addition, the following knowledge and experience are relevant for the project:

In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, container technologies, and cloud-native architectures

Experience with multi-cloud and hybrid cloud architectures, for example based on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Private Cloud

Knowledge of service mesh security, especially mTLS and Zero Trust, as well as traffic management and observability

Experience in IT architecture consulting, creation of technical concepts, and technical quality assurance

Understanding of cloud portability, vendor lock-in, and migration strategies

Nice to have

Experience with OpenShift, OpenStack, or sovereign cloud infrastructures

Project experience in the public sector or in regulated environments

Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, GitOps, and CI/CD

This project is particularly aimed at Senior Consultants, Cloud-native Architects, and Service Mesh Architects.
