As part of an innovative Pharma project, an experienced Lab Automation Engineer is sought for the implementation of AI-driven laboratory automation. The project takes place in Helsinki, where state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and robotic systems are to be programmed for autonomous experimental series. After a two-week introductory phase on-site, further project work will be carried out remotely. The special feature lies in the combination of artificial intelligence with precise laboratory automation, using PyLabRobot as an open-source framework and primarily Hamilton devices.

From December, the project will continue in Munich.

Responsibilities

• Programming and configuration of laboratory equipment (robot arms, analysis devices, centrifuges, plate readers, liquid handlers) with Python
• Implementation of automated laboratory workflows for AI-driven experimental series using PyLabRobot
• Integration of AI commands into device control while adhering to defined safety parameters
• Analysis, optimization, and validation of complex laboratory processes for maximum efficiency
• Close collaboration with software engineers and coordination with the overarching Rust data layer
• Ensuring the reliable execution of automated experimental series

Requirements

• At least 3 years of solid Python programming experience with a focus on automation
• 3-5 years of practical experience in lab automation with a hands-on mentality
• Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory workflows and understanding of pharmaceutical processes, as well as laboratory work
• Fluent German and English skills for international project work
• Ideally, experience with Hamilton devices and the PyLabRobot framework
• Advantageous: Rust knowledge and GxP experience in a regulated environment
